I have searched and got most of the answers I wanted.
I checked thier website to see what they have.
My Questions:
1. They offer preloaded codes, would these be good for a stock LS, or should I go custom?
2. I will add a CAI and Flowmasters in the future, will the preloads be fine or should I look into custom codes then?
3. What kind of estimated gains can I expect on stock LS? 10~15, 15~20?
4.http://www.sctflash.com/Chip.php will it work on 06 LS, and is this worth it? <-----not too interested in this one.
5. Best place to get best deal?

You cant use a chip in these cars from what I understand. You need to reflash the computer and XCal is tested and true on these cars.

You'll get a more specific tune for your particular tastes by getting a custom tune for the LS. I'm sure ILLS will see this and get back to you, or PM him. I'm one of the many happy customers of his on here.

There is a small power difference, 20 horse 20ft-lbs at most- you'll need to run 93 gas if you dont already. You'll notice it but then get used to it pretty quick.

The best part is the tune on the tranny. Doesnt go to too low of a gear, and finds it faster. Overall the car just seems to have better response at lower speeds. He can adjust firmness and shift points too.

If you want to add a power adder later, it comes in real handy but you have to let him know about it so he can unlock the options (and understand you can screw your car if you do it wrong!).

Well, I do have a heavy foot. Already on, and only, run 93 BP. Will most certainly get CAI and Flowmasters, not sure if I will do the SCT. Just looking at the cost vs function. Plus in wont void the warrenty since I can just set in back to stock.

just remember to tell your dealership to not update anything on the computer. i know they sometimes update the computer when you get your tranny flushed etc. and your car could be dead in the water.

1) SCT use to claim 14rwhp with there pre-loaded LS tune. We did better than that (19rwhp) with a custom tune - but I did have a intake at the time. The best tune is by a SCT dealer near you with acess to a dyno - your car, real results. next best thing is to use someone who does LSes.
2) Should be able to get more once the modes are on.
3) see above
4) only the XCal, XCal2, XCal3 and LiveWire work on the LS.
5) all the dealer are the same price (I believe it's part of the deal) but their service and experience is the difference.

My luck with the SCT flash tool was not as good as other folks. I had the first generation Xcal and then had the latest right before I sold my LS. We tried 30 or 40 different programs and I could never get my car to run right or perform without it knocking or pinging. Also, second gear changed really hard and I thought at one point the transmission would come out. After fooling with it for over 6 months I just put my original PCM code in and forgot about it.

I'm not saying you will have the same issues but that was my experience with it and I wasn't very impressed. Your mileage may vary.

That is too bad Ken. I wasn't aware that you had issues with tuning for your car. Just curious but who tuned it?

The pinging is indicative of whomever tuned your car having advanced the spark timing too far. I see some tuners do this in hopes of making a "hotter" tune to impress their customers. The problem is that the hotter tune may or may not make more power but it sure as heck isn't safe for the engine if it pings.

Shift firmness is another item that it seems allot of tuners go overboard on. While there may be a certain "cool factor" in being able to chirp that gears in a auto tranny car it still doesn't make for the best ride. Needlessly aggressive shifts are unduly hard on the driveline too.

I am willing to guess that at the time you had gotten your LS tuned that it was a while ago. The tuning/reverse engineered PCM box codes for these cars was allot less figured out back then compared to now. That could have been the culprit just as equally as the tuner who made your tunes.

Hey ILLS, Are you doing tunes with the Xcal for V-6's. I have an 05 with KKM CAI, Magnaflows after the resonators and running 245/45/18 rear tires.

Torrie with Fast Parts Network tuned it. We went through numerous tunes and never could get it right. Like I said in the earlier thread, this was my experience with the SCT Xcal unit but I'm sure not all are going to be like that.

I usually specialize in the LS V8's. In all honesty I have never taken a look at the LS6 tuning yet. For me to be confident in sending email tunes out to people I would have to work with an LS6 owner first to get something dialed in real well first. It should not pose to be a hard process; just a few more emails than regular.

I understand where you are coming from. Some people have great experiences with things while others do not have as much luck.

I've seen your black 03 explorer race video.
I used to want that kind of performance.
I was wondering if you have tunes that would increase
mpg and hp on my 03 X v8.
Do you sell the X3 or SCT economizer ?
The only mods I have done are
replace the stock exhaust with the magnaflow and
a stock k&n filter.
Its a sad day when I want more mpg than hp.

wow that died all of a sudden.... Tuning for performance gains MPG.... there is not real difference in MPG from the two kinds of tune. AFR's are AFR's end of subject
