SCT vs. Sniper Tuning vs. TwEECer

Hello all. I'm wondering if anyone has used any of these products on their Mark VIII's and how well people like these products, and how they perform. I'm going to be needing a chip real soon, and I haven't really found much information on people using these products. I don't want a mail order chip, i want something i can tune myself on my laptop or desktop. So either the SCT Pro Racer, or the Sniper Tuning Special Forces, or more preferably the Delta Force. Then there's the TwEECer RT, which is a fully user adjustable tuning kit as well. Here's the website links if anyone would like to do any research for themselves.

I'm just looking for a little feedback on what some people have experienced with these products, and what people think of them, and what you would prefer. Thanks for the info, and hopefully this thread helps alot more people out than me.

SCT all the way. 'nuff said.

I have one for my 98 mark and one for my powerstroke.

You really don't want the pro racer package. You'll risk grenading the engine if you start screwing with parameters you have no idea what they do. Just get an X-Cal 2 and be happy. There are a lot of dealers who know our Marks. I prefer a dealer out of Phoenix who's been working on modulars forever and a day.
 
1 problem....xcal2 isnt available for 1Gs.

the difference was more in how the car acted rather than HP- shift points all changed, firmer shifts, it went from feelin like a grandpa car to feelin more like a sport coupe
 
SCT Pro Racer Software: $350
X-Cal 2: $400
Additional License(For additional Vehicle): $100-$200 (salesman didn't quite know lol)
This is to directly flash the PCM, now if i'd like to have a 5 position chip then you'd minus the X-Cal 2 and add:

Chip Burner: $300
Chip: $350
Manual: $75

I believe you get free tech support with any of this, and SCT offers the manual. Real time vehicle monitoring only if you have the X-cal 2 (according to salesman).

Sniper Special Forces: Around $380 (only drop down pre-set boxes for different settings)
Sniper Delta Force: $750 (edit anything you could think of on your PCM)

I've been planning on calling Sniper and seeing if they offer any kind of free tech support, and i'm not sure if they offer a manual with the purchase price or what, i'll have to dig a little more into this). You can also add up to 2 additional vehicles at no cost as well with the Delta Force. There is also a chip available and i believe you don't need a burner for this chip, but again i'm unsure of cost of this.

Base TwEECer: $380+shipping and tax
TwEECer RT: $550+shipping and tax

The TwEECer RT offers real time engine monitoring of all variables. Not sure if a guide or tech support is available with this product. I've spoken with SCT and Sniper on the phone a couple times, but I just learned about the TwEECer, and i know the TwEECer was popular with the Taurus SHO's.


The other thing in my concern is that my buddy has a 94 Mark, and I have a 98 Mark, and the Sniper works with 1988-current Ford vehicles and nothing is additional, except a chip for the pre 96 cars. I don't recall if SCT can program pre 96 vehicles, I believe it's only 96 and up. So that's another thing I have to take into consideration. My buddy and I would go half and half on whatever we would get but obviously it'd have to work on his car, as well as mine.

Just a few things i've gathered from doing research on my own, not exactly 150% sure if all of this is correct, but as far as i know it is. Thanks.

Ok Jeff... If you say so. That HP increase was measured on a DYNO. Do you understand the concept of a Dynanometer? Before the tune and after the tune. Actually, we did something on the order of 9 pulls. A dyno doesn't measure how the car "feels". It measures actual power.

But you must be right. It's just how the car acted and felt. :rolleyes:

isn't jeff commenting on how HE felt the tune changed HIS car?
 
i just meant that the car felt a lot different but i didnt notice any big HP gains- mainly the shift point change and quicker shifts were noticable- i never doubted your HP numbers.... just tryin to tell the guy what i noticed no reason to fight

What was the base run result ? After tune result ?
 
I say your best bet is to find a dynoshop that has a bit of a reputation with modulars AND offers SCT. I know there's three good shops here in Houston, and only one offers SCT which is best for a 'driver' car. Diablo is good but it's more for track if you ask me. I don't know much aboutt the other programs, but I'm way biased towards SCT. They show the best output and seem to be the most friendly to use. But only from what I have seen. I can't see someone being happier than going with SCT. I've never met anyone who either runs SCT or switched to SCT who was not 100% happy, and I've met alot of modded 4V guys.
