First I would like to say, do not waste my time or yours if you dont understand the PATS system in depth. This is an issue past the simple things.
Long story short, I ended up with a 00 Lincoln LS. It has no ignition assembly and no keys. I bought a used ignition assembly and it came with 1 key. I bought another blank key and had it cut to match. I went to go install the ignition assembly and program 2 keys but turned up to have a bad tranciever (or so I thought) because I was pulling a code for it. I bought a new tranciever and went to program the keys again. Still same problem. I should of checked it before but fuse 24 was popped. Replaced fuse, now the programmer will not communicate properly with they tranciever. I checked fuse 24 that powers the tranciever (5amp) and it is still good. I checked for a 12v signal (orange wire) and its good. Checked for ground, and thats good. I then pulled up schematics for the PATS system. It looks like the issue could be in the instrument cluster or the wiring now. I visually inspected all the wiring and everything looks good. I then jumped the wires with a 12v source and at the other end of the wire, I get that 12v signal confirming the wires are good.
From what it seems, the programmer isnt communicating with the tranciever and I have a few suspicions. One reason is the circuit in the instrument panel is bad. Another issue is the alarm will not stop going off so the programmer will not program the keys resulting in signal never making it to cluster hence the keys not programming.
I have no way to disable the alarm. I run self test and gain access (10 minute wait) but keys will not program.
Tomorrow when dealer opens, I am going to purchase a remote for the car and try and program the remote to shut off the alarm then I am going to try and program the keys. If that doesnt work, I will end up replacing the cluster. I already pulled the cluster to get the ID#. If that doesnt work, I will be back to square one. I would like to test the cluster to see if it works but cannot find any info on that.
Help/advice?
