i get code 214- CID.. i searched the posts trying not to ask the same questions and i saw someone said to change the cam sensor, as did my mechanic, so i picked one up for $12.99 at autozone and changed it, it still says check engine while cruising. i pulled the battery cable and let it sit a while and on my 20 mile test drive home and still says check engine... grrr... does anyone have any insight on this? my car is stock (k&n and a dump), it is in mint condition, and it just hit 100k miles. could i have bought another bad sensor or does anyone have any ideas or thoughts on this?

was it hard to change the cam sensor? i have to change mine too, do you have any tips on the process?

Just making sure you didnt mistake the cam sensor for the crank sensor(I have no dea what your level of automotive knowledge is).

try reaching up between the A/C compressor and the crank pulley, and un-plugging the crank sensor for a few seconds, then re-connect it. Then dis-connect your battery for 10 minutes, re-connect it, then try it

The CE light might stay on until the codes are "cleared"....That I dont know on OBD-II.

But if you accidentally asked for a cam sensor instead of a crank sensor, you didnt accomplish much.

it said the code(214) was the cam sensor. i removed the 3- 10mm bolts holding the power steering resevoir on and removed the single 8mm bolt holding the cam sensor in place. the sensor i changed was directly behind the power steering resevoir, on the top left part of the timing chain cover.

also the check engine light doesnt stay on, it comes on while cruising at a constant speed or decellerating

67 continental- it was easier to change than the airfilter.. no lie

Gotcha...I dont have a code reader, so I didnt know what 214 was.

Sounds like you did what you were supposed to.

perhaps you could chase the wiring harness from the sensor back into the loom. I am sure you could tell how tight they are wrapped on that extension of the harness...perhaps the wire has rubbed through slightly.

I am at a loss. Code said to change it. You did. Still a problem. Sorry...
