I have been studying this recently, looking at the led forums and even just recently posted a request of pics to see what the inside of the housing looks like. Also i purchased a micro-controller today at Fry's to start learning the digital world of electronics.

In Mind? Selling plug-n-play kits.
Been working on this with a Guy for about a Month now on this. Ill be doing mine first. No idea on price yet. Just seeing if theres anough interest to get a production run done. There AMAZING and BRIGHT!! He is working on doing one including the brake light!!!

I might be interested. Would it replace the neon? Can we mock up a prototype, even if it's just a photoshop one? Would there be a good warranty on something that?

Yes I know what can be done. I have been researching this for a few months and have a kit underway.

It will not be expensive at all for what you will be getting.

Whatever the controller manufacturers warranty will be. You could do one on a Gen 2 but you would have to fab up the light panel to accomodate sockets.
I am probably in then, I like being the first one to get new stuff that comes out, kind of like I am in the 4th grade again around X-mas time.

i take it there isnt one for 95-97 town cars. anyone know where to start looking or building a kit for a town car?

I'm in all the way, especially if it can also work with the outer tail lights and not just the light bar. I have some LED's coming tomorrow with a control box and will be doing a few tests with an extra light bar that I have here in my room. If I come up with something crazy, I'll post a video of it but the light bar will be in my floor, not on the car. I would want everything ready for plug and play before installing the bar on the lid.
