I have a 2000 ls v8 i changed my valve covers because of an oil leak and the spark plug holes were all filled up with oil when i removed the spark plugs all the oil whent into the cylender makeing the car smoke very bad for a couple of minutes after starting once it quit smoking the car started shaking at idle which it never did before so i thought that i fouled the spark plugs but when i put new spark plugs in it did not fix the shaking the car never missed or shook before i fixed the oil leak help!

Try disconecting the battery for a few minutes. That resets the computer. That's my guess and you wont hurt anything.

That doesn't sound good. You may want to actually do a compression check too. I hope you didn't drain enough oil in there to cause a hydraulic lock and bend something.

I have the same shaking idle problem with my '00 V-8; mostly after a cold start. I've replaced the V/C gaskets, plugs, reset the 'puter, cleaned the IAC and the maf and the shaky problem persists. I also replaced the boots and a couple of coils (swaped around to all cyl, but no difference).I don't have the hesitation at 45ish that seems to be common with a bad coil, but there is a little hesitation just above idle. I have no CEL and my scanner picks up nothing (it'll read pending codes). From some previous threads on here it sounds like it could be an injector, but if so, which one.

I'm about to just replace all the injectors to see if that fixes it, but I don't want to take the shotgun approach like that.

Sorry about jacking the thread louann, but it sounds like we have the same problem.

i am geting a studer stuby around 45 do you think it might be a bad coil if so is there a way to check them with out involving the dealer

Ran into the same problem with my 00' V8. It would idle below 4000rpm @ standstill, but ran fine after shifting to 2nd. Went and borrowed a code reader at Autozone.....forgot which code i got, but it was basically a misfire on cylinder 8. Checked the plug, but the plug was fine. Anyway, I ended up changing all 8 and replaced the ignition coil on cylinder 8. My problem was solved. If you do end up doing this, you might want to invest some money on a new gasket too.
