Recently my shift cable broke so i went out to replace it, but i dont have to the proper way of adjusting so it'll stay in gear. Has any one else experienced this problem?
I know i start from the OD position and cycle thru all detent postions but what else do I need to know? any torque spec for the nut that secures it from the rooster comb to the end where it meets the shifter?

I've never had to do it.. From the '88 manual.. word for word..

mark Vll.. Tbird 5.0L V8... 2.3 Turbo engines..

-------

1. Position the transmission selector lever in OVERDRIVE position for AOD transmission.

NOTE: The shift lever should be held against the rearward OVERDRIVE stop when linkage is adjusted.

2. Raise the vehicle and loosen the manual lever shift cable retaining nut. Refer to Pre-Delivery manual, section 50-04. Move the transmission manual lever to the OVERDRIVE position third detent position from the full counterclockwise position.

3. With the transmission selector lever and manual lever in the OVERDRIVE position, tighten the attaching nut to 13-25 N-m (9.5 - 18.5 lb-ft).

4. Check the operation of the transmission in each selector lever position.

...10 or 20 lb-ft aint much.. kinda like a snug spark plug..
