I purchased a 2001 LS V8 that I new had a couple problems, the windows and horn being the 2 known issues.

The shifter knob also had some tape on it she said it broke a while back, and the tape was at the pivot point for the button to hold it in.

I get in it yesterday and get a click sound ... and the rest of the pivot broke off, little piece of plastic. So now the button wasnt working at all.

I planned on replacing this knob anyways so no big deal seen them on ebay just havent purchased it yet.

But now im wondering, i begin to think its not going to be just the knob..

I removed the knob and depress the plastic/nylon rod to get it out of park.

Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. I mean it can require an excessive amount of force to depress it, or multiple times hitting it to get it to finally sink in, once in its fairly easy to depress.

Im sure now this is why the original knob was broken.

I did a search and cant seem to find anything regarding this so if anyone knows what the problem is and how to fix this please post a link, if i figure it out ill make a new post with the fix.

Its SST.

And im an idiot.... in my frustration i now realize I think my unsuccessful attempts at depressing it I may not have had the brake depressed lol. grrrrr automatics....

It seems to work now that i depress the brake.... wow imagine that.

HA! sorry for wasting your time.

Something that is very helpful is the Owners Manual, you can down load it from TECH ARTICLES at the top of the page.
