Guy down the road has a 98? SHO for sale. What should I offer him. And what kind of insurance hike would there be for having an SHO?
 
ask him if he's had the camshafts welded. If not then i wouldn't offer him more than 2000. Make sure this is done as the factory design will allow the cam gears to "walk" on the camshaft putting the engine out of time and destroying your pistons...good luck!

those came in v6 and v8 versions in that body style right? I have heard that the v6's actually perform better.
 
i would never own a 3.8, too many problems head gasket and timing cover gasket have always been a issue with that eng. ford keeps saying they have a fix but its always just a band aid.

if you are talking about the SHO then yeah, the v6 is quicker. the quickest ones are the 89's i believe with the manual, correct me if i'm wrong

your right. sho vs sho the v6 will smoke the v8.

id go so far to say the v8 sho vs a 3.0 dohc standard issue taurus, id put my money on the 3.0 dohc

from 97-98 dohc taurus would keep right along side or beat a v8 sho, those cars are actually somewhat impressive for what they are. the v8 sho just has the sound of the v8 going for it, otherwise it's not much different than a standard dohc v6
 
You only need to worry about the cams on the V8 SHO's, the V6's do not have the problem, but you can still weld them. My friend has a 91 V6 SHO, it knows how to go when you put your foot down... For a 91, it's almost as luxurious as my 02 LSE, damn...
