Hi everybody - I've read some of your threads & enjoyed the comments back and forth.
I've been shopping for an LS for about 6 months - I had been shopping for a pre-owned Volvo, but then discovered I could get a great deal on a pre-owned LS. I'd always thought the LS a very attractive car (love the styling), but that's all I knew about it. Test drove the LS - it was a V8, can't remember if it was a 2001 or 2002, but oh, wow, I loved it! It felt like there was only the driver's area, and there was no "rest of the car." We were just starting to shop so we didn't buy the car right then - wish I had, would have saved me a lot of shopping since then.
I'm going to post a question - but I'll ask it here also - I'm thinking of buying a Certified Pre-Owned 2004 LS V8 Sport with about 20K mi on it - it's a pretty good deal because it was a "daily rental." Anybody have any thoughts? anybody bought and then been disappointed in a car that used to be a daily rental? do renters thrash the vehicles? is this good deal maybe not such a good deal? I do have confidence in the LM dealer.

Welcome to LVC I am a new member myself, I too have considered buying a LS. I will probably buy a 2002 LSE, I love to monotone look! Anyway, about your question, if it is certified then you are protected for 6 years, 75,000 miles if I am not mistaken. That is good, on the other hand I do know that rental cars are usually not taken car of that well. I had a focus from enterprise one time and the ball-joint bearing was almost totally shot, the car was driving very funny and making all kinds of noise. I told them about it and they said they had some complaints but could not find the problem... not to mention the oil was about a quart and a half low. About halfway through my rental period someone bought the car (I guess enterprise sells their rentals at a discount towards the end of the model year) and I had to return it. Frankly I would not have taken the car if it was given to me. They gave me a dodge ram quad cab for the remaining time of my rental at no additional cost, it ran like a dream!! Long story for a short point, most people do hot rod and trash rentals because it is not their car. On the other hand a LS V8 is capable of aggressive driving. My only suggestion to you is to watch the milege. Lincoln is anal about trade-ins with more than the standard 10,000-12,000 miles a year (up until recent years it was 15,000 to 18,000. Leasing has ruined that!!) they will dock you a lot of money for the miles and conveniently not bring up the milage or let on like it's no big deal when you are buying. 20,000 miles on a 2004 is high considering it is only a year old. On the other hand if it is a car you will stick with for more than a couple years the warranty on certified is awesome and the V8 is the same as what Jaguar uses so I have been told. Good luck and let us know if and when you buy!!
