I purchased a 05 Navi w/ 56k in Jan 09. I started hearing a slight nocking from the engine a little after. After taking it in to the ford dealer i brought it from they told me it was normal noise for a truck that size. Being its my first truck I went with it. Yesterday while driving my Navi starts violently shaking and bucking. I pulled over shut it down. When I start it up again after hesitation it starts and the engine light is on. A strong smell of gas in and outside was noticeable. This morning i went to my local Lincoln dealership and they said they'll look into it. @ About 3pm i decide to call cause i havent heard anything. They mention my cylinder blew. I can get around simple fixes but by no meanes am I mechanic savy. Luckily I purchased a Ford premium warranty @ date of purchase. He told me a Ford inspector has to come down and take a look. I cant get a rental until everything is ok'ed. @ the moment the engine is being taken down. If anybody has ever gone through this please inlight me, educate me or even give your opinion on whats in store for me. Is the truck even worth keeping after this?

They told you it was normal, hoping you'd accept it as such and go away.

Now it's broken because they didn't address the issue in the first place, which would have easily been covered under warranty.

they mentioned "the cylinder blew", which probably means it blew out a spark plug. had that issue been addressed with your initial complaint the truck wouldn't now need a cylinder head replacement.

hopefully the warranty people will just accept it as such and fix it.

I hate warranty work..
Car Warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on IMHO.

Easy fix or needs a new head if it was previously done. We have not replaced a head in years...they are all fixed with an insert per ford. Do not be afraid of this truck....it is "normal" for them to do this once. I think it is the 3rd one from the front that goes and a b**ch to get at.

its currently @ 61k. If it sounds like BS what else could it have been? I need all the advice I can.

No, he's saying the situation is BS, not the diagnosis. Spark plugs blowing out is a common problem.

my first gen mark 8 spit out a plug at aroune 175K
I repaired it in my driveway using the "steel insert".

At 408K that insert was still in service, never had an issue with it.

Max is right do NOT fear the spark plug hole repair.

It's actually "better" after the fact than it was before.
you get "more" threads when you get the insert, compared to the stock spark plug hole with very few threads.

i just wasnt sure if a problem like this would result in future surprises. I was told (by a caddy owner) when anything goes wrong in a Navi engine its nothing but problems in the future. I was figuring i have 3.5 years left on the warranty and maybe i should get rid of it before it ends? I guess i'll just have to see. Waiting word on the dealer... last i heard Ford approved the dismantle of the engine but an inspector needs to come in... fingers crossed.

If it's the spark plug blew out of the cylinder the repair is better than original IMHO.

you didn't clarify what type of repair your actually getting?

So i finally got the official phone call. Frank @ Owens Lincoln tells me my engine is being repaced after very tough persuation was applied to Ford. He tells me along with my cylinder head they found debri in my oil pan and some other engine related problems causing knocking. I only had a few seconds to talk so I told him i dont want an engine with high mileage... (im new to this situation so forgive me!) he said rarely does this happen but since you brought in to Ford previously and they told you nothing is wrong I was looking into an attorney to get the best case scenerio. I guess the lied work after a week of back and forth Ford agreed to pay for a new engine instead of fixing and potientally put a band aid on a problem that can arrise later on. Has anyone here ever gone through this situation? Do I need a new title? Does my warranty change cause of this? Im not sure whether to be happy or nervous. As noted i couldnt talk long but I plan on going down and get detailed on what was the problems and any other questions I have from now till I get a chance to go up this week.

no, you don't need a new title. Take your truck in, let them swap the engine, pick up the vehicle when it's done, and enjoy a brand new engine in your used vehicle.

Be happy.

Oh, and a Navigator is not a truck. It may have been built on a truck frame, but it is an SUV. A navigator will not hold a candle to a pick-up when it comes to towing... the main reason to get a pick-up.

Your warrenty will continue til the time as stated in the owners manual. If you have 3/36 then at 36000 mile the warrenty is gone, in other words the warrenty does NOT start from 0 because the engine was changed. If your policy says 100,000 miles then that is when it is done even if the engine is 2 days old.
We have this concern with batteries all the time. 1 month left on the vehilce warrenty and we replace a defective battery. That new battery has 1 month left of warrenty, even though it is an 84month battery....I know DUMB..but that is the way it is.

So got the call yesterday informing me the Navi is all set. First impression... quieter and smoother. Engine light is on but I was told if its still on these next couple of days come back and they'll double check it (picked it up almost close to closing). @ idle in drive i still can fell a slight vibation from time to time, very minimal nothing like before. Someone mentioned it could be the motor mounts if they werent replaced... any suggestions? Trying to take it easy on her for next month or so and see how it goes from there.

So I dropped her off last night for the light and vibration. Got the call this morning stating one of my o2 sensors needed recalliberation. Dealer said engine light is off and no more funny shakes... come get her. Lets see how she runs tonight and thanks for all the info. I'll run through the work order and post so it my be useful to any other member who might go through this in future.

yet another wonderful ford dealer story haha
i read the whole thread....at least they actually did replace the engine and fix the sensors and whatnot, some people just dont have that much luck even with a warranty lol
