Ok, so after a close call with a deer that i couldnt see, i got pissed with the marks headlights...if you can call them that. I think its more like a candle than anything else. So, i got some driving/parking lights. I am pritty sure i can handle doing the install by myself. I just was wondering how other people have done it, and whats the easiest/best things to do. Where should i mount the lamps (can i mount them behind the grille, by drilling through the bumper?) Whats the best spot to go through the firewall? Hell, if i have to take out a bunch of stuff to get through the firewall, im just gonna mount the switch in the engine bay, lol. I just want these suckers IN! i cant stand not being able to see! Helpage would be very very nice!

do u have a 1st or 2nd gen?
Just curious...I have a 2nd and I have no problems with my lights....but then again they are HID's so they are a lot better than the stock 1st gen ones. I have heard a lot of complaints about the poor lighting from the 1st gens...hope all goes well for u bro. sorry cant be much or any of help.

Lights Gen.1

After trying chrome paint, tape & actual mirrors I cut the front of my lens off & squeezed in seal beam. The look, for non Mark V111 owners, is quite normal & I can drive 24/7 in any weather. When I finish with other projects, if ever, I have the option of putting in new lights or some other mod. At worst a temporary solution. "I can see clearly now". Ed

Forgot to mention that I tried various driving lights in other than behind the grille positions & did not gain much. One solution is to adjust your highbeams to run as low beams & use behind the grille driving lights for the highs. You can as one post has it tie the highs to the lows with a wire & diode to prevent back feed with the highs adjusted & run four lights for lows with the driving lights as a bonus for open road conditions. That does work pretty well with polished lens. Actually you don't need the diode if you intend to run the four lights all the time, thats only if you want to run just the lows some times. Heres looking at ya. Ed

i thought of doing that before, but im no good with electrical...i always think im gonna kill myself. But whats this with the lenses? You CUT them? Did you put somthing over them so they dont get destroyed?

I had a simalar problem head lights useless. I broke down and called local ford dealer and poped for a pair of new lights. I also picked up a hid conversion off Ebay. Its Daylight infront of my 93 now. I Payed 197.00 each for new headlights and 204. for hid conversion.

Wonder if you could just take the lights out and with a dremell tool cut away the shield that covers the bulb? or is the shield just on HIDS?

I contemplated all the options I've seen mentioned, and they all looked like junk, so I bought new lights. They cost about $400, and everything was included -- just plug 'em in and adjust. Brand new lights, very bright, and don't look like a botched job.

If you want to wire in some extra driving lights, there is no need to go through the firewall or wire in a manual switch. What you need is a relay, which is an electronic switch (very simple and cheap). Tap power for the switch directly from a headlight wire, this way when your headlights go on, the relay switches the driving lights on. Use power directly from the battery to power the driving lights, and power from the headlight wire to switch the relay. good luck. I'd go for the first option (well, I did!)
