Sirius Radio

I just purchased a 2002 LS. I was going to take the sirius radio out of my work car ( it's sportster 4), and set it up in my LS.

I can't find a good place to put it...or where to run the wires without it looking like $hit. Plus the fm transmitter doesn't sound that good.

I was wondering what options I have. Can I buy a head unit, or some type of chip so I can get sirius in the car through the cd player.

say..an 05, or 06 lincoln ls.....does the units in those play sirius?

Any help, links, suggestions would be awesome.

i have the same thing in my car. i attached the unit to the air vent abive the stereo, left vent and ran wires behind the bezel down to the console and then through the gap between plastic by shifter, left side, then under console to the back under pass seat and behind the plastic floor trim bla bla bla. can see no wires and it looks ok . i put the antenna on the tunk lid with double sided tape

Sirius was an available option on the '04-'06 LS (it can be added to some '03 Nav-equipped LSes), but that won't help you. The 2nd Gen ('03-'06) head units are are not interchangeable with the 1st Gen LS head units; even if they were, the Sirius functionality comes from an add-on receiver (which is not compatible with 1st Gen LS head units), so you'd need that as well as the head unit.

I don't know what outputs the Sportster 4 has, but if it has a line-out or headphone out, get yourself a PIE Aux adapter (see http://www.pie.net/ ) and use that to connect to the head unit's Aux input and call it good...

alright....i ahve an 06, i bought the siruis radio, and noticed the fm transmitter sucked on it. so i ran to radioshack nd bout the built in attena transmitter. u pull out the factory head unit, on the back there is the plug for the aattena un plug it and plug ur siruis attena right into the back of the radio.then u can plug the factory atena back in. and you get cd quailty....i think it only cost 20$. and when i installed it i actully took out the ash try, and made a custom stainless steel insert in its place... i just mounted the siruis right to that...it looks pretty cool....ill take some pictures and post them tomrrow its kinda late tonight.

I drilled a couple holes in the vent trim plate and mounted mine right there. At the same time, I added a relay control to one of my console outlets so it's powered only when the ignition is on, and spliced in a cigarette lighter plug behind the dash for power. I think it's a pretty clean installation for an add-on. And my wife hates air blowing on her face, so the blocked vent is a non-issue. I usually just leave it closed.

The antenna is mounted with double-sided tape right at the base of the windshield, so nothing's run exterior to the car. Quick and easy run.

The FM converter performance was terrible in this car, so I used a "direct-connect" kit Sirius sent me awhile back. It plugs into the antenna jack, and the antenna plugs into it.


BTW, for those of you wondering how I could take a drill to my car in this manner? I plan on having the car a long time, and hope to find another surround at some point, or will just let the radio setup go with the car when the time comes, I don't know.
