Recently purchased a 96 Mark 8 w/38k miles, smokes blue on startup after setting 2 ro 3 days, and best mileage w/easy foot is 21 mpg. Any info I would appreciate. Thanks rgs

A friend of mine has a '93 Mark, and his does the same thing after sitting for several days. My guess is that it's the valve stem seals leaking slightly. I've never heard of it happening aside from his and yours. Personally, I've never let mine sit that long. :) As long as it's not burning oil otherwise and it's not consuming an excessive amount, it's probably nothing to worry about.

If you're getting 21 mpg in the city, that's really good. If that's highway mileage, I'd start with basic tuneup/maintenance stuff and get the computer scanned for any stored codes. FYI, I get about 16 city/28 hwy.

My '93 does the same thing. It also rattles at startup only after sitting at least overnight. The smoke at startup is after a few days. It's not much, seems to be valve seals. I've had many old Chryslers that did the same thing and ran forever. I change the oil every 3-5000 miles and the dipstick shows only a very slight change. I've been told that the rattle is the timing chain tensioners and not to worry. The car purrs like a kitten and runs very strong. I get 25 mpg consistent on a tankful no matter the driving, highway or city. It has over 90000 miles so I'm not worried about either condition.
Dave.
