So I have determined I have a small leak due to the oil residue I found on my exhaust manifold I am also getting a oil smell through my vents temporarily when i first put on the heat. It goes away after a few minutes. I would like to fix that. Would that be a valve cover gasket failure? I am not experiencing any misfiring or any plug/coil related issues but went for a drive and checked my oil and was surprised when I seen I had VERY little oil on the dipstick. I also see a build up of residue from the power steering pump hoses and have been having to refill the reservoir about once a week. Should I replace the hoses or just cut them back a bit and buy new clamps If possible? I will take pictures in the morning. Thanks in advance

Knowing the year and the engine (V8 or V6) would alter the accuracy of the advise that you may get.

I'd bet on the imrc o-ring seals on the intake as the source of the oil leak that is burning, but it could be other things such as valve cover gaskets too.
On the power steering, you need to clean it up really good and find out where it is really leaking. You could cut and clamp the low pressure hoses (the two that go to the reservoir), but I really doubt they are the problem (or if they are, then full replacement is probably required). It's more common for the high pressure switch to leak. Otherwise, if it is the high pressure hose, it must be replaced. You can't cut and clamp it (and have it work).

ok thanks. yeah i think im going to change my o rings and valve seals and see if that fixes it.. might as well give my coils/sparks a good look down too . if i see any oil in the wells i will be swapping them out.
