brought it to my mechanic today so he could replacea bearing (makes a winding noise) so he takes it out of the car and tells me the tranny is toast, something about the input shadt its a 5spd manual and my car is a 2000 v6. what the heck should i do im so depressed about this,.

I believe new ones are under $2000. Either spend it or write off the car. Chances of finding one used is small.

whats the last 8 of your vin? i have a line on a couple of used ones, but i need the build date.

i have full coverage, would my insuance cover it after i pay my deductablle?

The only way I know that will work is if you claim the damage was the result of some sort of accident. Don't try and pull that one off, ok? My insurance rates are high enough as it is.....

i called the dealer, they said ford dosnt have new ones, they would have to rebuild it. im going to get my car back hopefully tonite, i will get the vin for you. where is my manufactor date?

i can get the date off the vin, or you can find it on the door jamb sticker. i believe the sticker is on the back door of these cars.

A good transmission man should be able to rebuild the tranny for less than the cost of replacement if it really is only a problem with the input shaft. If it's the same thing that my dad had to do to what was then his and is now my F-150, it probably only involves the replacement of the input shaft. It's not terribly difficult, although I wouldn't recommend it for a novice...
