After reading shill1234's thread on cobra mufflers and evillally's responce that there are better mufflers out there.

What should one look for in a replacement muffler for a Mark VIII. Not all members want their VIII's to be race warriors that are roaring through the neighborhood. Even though many of us (or at least Bryan is) going through a mid-life Crisis and these cars are the band-aide to getting though with speed and style.

I have 2 Mark VIIIs that I would like to gain some hp by going to true duals. I've seen those who have gone to Geno's shop and had some very nice systems put on. I've watched Ray's vidoe along with others.

What should those of us look for when planning changes to our exhaust systems.

Granted the Resonator has to go and can't have that with duals anyway.

What about the H-pipe vs. X-pipe and why does Ray have 2 X-pipes? What did it gain?

And last the mufflers - I know flowmasters!!! I heard that before or Geno's mufflers, but my budget might not support Geno's or to have them shipped might put them over the top.

Are there any a bit more quite mufflers that would not hinder Performance! I have enough neighbors with da Bad @$$ trucks who let us know when they are going to and coming home from work. But I don't mind some rumble!

go to jegs website, they got the best prices for magnaflows and other mufflers... $80 bucks ea. stainless steel. thats what im going to do. just shop around, believe me you are going to find something that fits your budget.

For budget muffs, try Flowtechs from Summit (p/n BIG-50322FLT) $40 each. A local T-Bird owner has a pair and they actually sound good, and not bad for the price.

Next. go with an X-pipe and 2.5 inch pipes, they'll flows gases better all throughout your powerband. H-pipe will give you better low-end torque, but may be a little louder for your taste. X-pipes change the torqeband of your engine, making torque sooner.

So 2.5 pipes, an x-pipe, and Flowtechs, and some cheapo tips should satisfy your needs and be within your budget.
