Well, to start it off first, my alternator went out last night, leaving my stranded. I am really starting to regret buying this car, its been one problem after another. But, I am pretty much stuck with it unless I want to take a huge loss on it. So, what is generally the problem with these alternators? In the past when I have had them go out ive just thrown a remanufactured one on there from an auto parts store, but I took an auto electric class this semester and now I know how to fix them.

Also my bags have been leaking in cold weather, is it definately the bags or could it be an o-ring seal somewhere too?

I think the bags leaking and compressor running a lot could have overworked the alternator causing it to go out too. If the bags are shot I will be ordering a spring conversion shortly.

THanks for any help.

PARTS STORE ALTERNATOR!!!!!!!!

Every other time I or anyone I know has purchased a parts store alternator, a second alternator had to be purchased because the first one wouldn't even light off.

Putting a parts store alternator in your car is like giving a kid 5 bucks and asking him to grab you the paper. One day you'll get your paper, the next day, you'll get nothing at all.

Ive never had a problem with a parts store alternator, but I am planning on rebuilding the alternator myself if I can find a rebuild kit.

we bought a brand new one at o'Reilly *whatever way u spell it lol* and it was the last one they had.... no it wasnt rebuilt. and we payed $175

how often do these cars need alternatrs? It seems like everyone needs or has replaced one or more on their car.

You could call Maxx for an alternator. I did a month or so ago. $176 for a Ford reman. unit. That was the gold member price though. Also has a $60 core charge.
