I promise to nicer if you promise to be smarter.
I took the car to SLC this Friday, and on the way back, she would start hesitating over 3K rpm.

The car would cruise at 80 just fine, and it climbed Parleys PAss (nice 15 mile 6% Grade) with no problems.

I got her home, and hooked up a code scanner. The scanner pulled the following Codes from the Computer:

P0171- System too Lean (Bank 1)
P0174- System too Lean (Bank 2)
P0411- Secondary Air Injection incorrect Airflow.

Now, I looked at the Secondary Air pump, and noticed that the pink vacuum hose has a nice hole in it from rubbing on the Idler pulley.

My question is, would the Secondary Air Injection pumps make the car run lean? I thought the secondary Air Injection pump only ran for the first couple of minutes on cold start-ups?

I did smell a faint Gasoline Odor just about everytime I let the car coast.
No fuel leaks detected on the motor. I don't know where else the fuel smell could be coming from at highway speeds, since i can smell it coming through the vents. Its not much, but i can smell it.

Also, I have noticed that the fuel system starts to lose pressure almost as soon as I turn the car off.

I wonder if the Fuel pump isn't acting up, though it is a new 255LPH/HP pump. Ofcourse, that doesnt mean anything. There is a new AFPR that replaced the OEM FPR at the same time the fuel pump was installed.

Any thoughts?

You are correct about the Secondary Air only used during start-up up to 120 seconds. I do not think it will cause a lean condition.

For the fuel, what pressure are you running at WOT? You should be running around 40PSI. You can check that by simply removing the vacuum on the AFPR and checking it with a gauge and adjust it to 40PSI. Other than that, I am not totally sure. I have the 255LPH/HP pump as well, and notice that the pressure dies off relatively quick as soon as the key is turned off.

Now, with the smell of fuel could be the same problem that I had. The seal for the fuel tank was not sitting in the opening correctly. I would smell it more when I had a full tank vice a lower tank level, but I could still smell it. What I did was drop the tank again and stretched the gasket so that it fit in the opening. What happens is as soon as you remove the gasket it shrinks, and if you are not aware of this then when you put it back together it will not sit in the groove correctly and you will get vapors that will escape the tank and you will smell gas. Did you start smelling the gas smell soon after the pump was replaced? If yes, then you may have a fuel tank gasket problem.

Hope that helps a bit.

Wkd,

I appreciate the ideas.

My Nifty NGS Tester was telling me the fuel pump was running at 98% Duty Cycle, at idle.

I borrowed my mechanic's Fuel Pressure Gauge, (I have a Star tester but no fuel pressure gauge... I know, I know.), and Low and Behold, the Fuel pressure was sitting at 12psi at idle. Deffinitely not enough.

I called JDS Performance, and told the guy about my problem thinking it was his pump thatw as bad. Apparently, I ordered the wrong pump. I ordered the GSs342, and I need the GSS340, since the Marks have a Return line....?

Anyways, the guy at JDS Performance is sending me a GSS340 Pump, at his cost, and will take the old one back. The guy sounds straight up, but I remember Grifter saying that he had installed a GSS342 in his mark? IIIRC, his Mark is a Gen 1? Would there be a difference in fuel systems? Grifter, if you wouldn't mind chiming in, sir?
