So heres my situation. I bought the car recently and i love it. It has the 12 speaker audio option with the cd changer in the glove box. However, only 4 of the speakers are working, the console and rear deck ones. When the volume is turned way up, you can faintly hear some sound coming from the door speakers, but nothing substantial. Im a complete noob when it comes to this car so i have no idea if its a fuse or an amp or even where those are located. Any help would be appreciated. thanks!!

by the way, its a 2000 without the sport package but premium sound setup. Ive searched for hours on this forum and others and cant find anyone else with this problem.

Sounds like a problem with the head unit. The center speakers and rear subs have outboard amplifiers, but the amps for the door speakers are built in to the head unit. Since you're getting power to the head unit it doesn't sound like a fuse.

if i wanted to look for a blown fuse for the speakers or amplifier where would i look, or are they inside the head unit?

do you think i can fix the head unit or have it fixed somewhere? I'd really like to keep the stock look. If no, then what is the best dash converter to use for a conventional head unit? and can i keep the steering wheel controls? Thanks for the help!!

is there any way too tell for sure, if its the head unit or not. i wont buy another one, i have a nice pioneer lying around, will the cd changer and steering wheel controls hook up to it? thanks for helping, i have no idea what im doing!

It could possibly be a wiring problem, could possibly be that all four door speakers are bad. You could take it to a shop and have it tested for sure, but that's probably going to cost you more than it would to just buy a used radio and swap it.

Steering wheel control adapter sells for about $50, check here to make sure it will work with your pioneer:

Factory CD changer will not work.

Thanks again, i'll have to check a junkyard. Is there anyone else that has had a similar problem? I'd really appreaciate it.

before spending money make sure the fade and balance aren't causing your issue..

that was my first check, even when they are turned all the way up front, nothing comes out of the front door speakers. thanks though. I bought a radio off ebay, hopefully it solves the problem

I should also mention that when i turn the key to the on position, the door speakers pop, and then when i start the car, they pop after that too.

I had/have the same problem in my 05, only it was just in the read deck speakers. No sound and the "pop". Its the amp. Had it replaced under warranty. Now the second one is starting to pop, so it will be replaced with an after market amp and sub.

Update: i ran the audio self diagnostic thingy where it makes sound come out of every speaker individually. Using this, sound came out of ever speaker except the left rear door one. If this one is blown, could it cause all the other door speakers to cease function? Or is the reigning opinion that there is a flaw in the radio? I looked at the DTC's too, one came up, it was: B2403. Thanks for the help guys!

The code is for "audio CD/DJ internal fault", usually means a bad connection between the head unit and the CD changer. I wouldn't think this would keep the radio from playing. Disconnect the left rear speaker and see what happens, you might even try swapping that speaker with one of the other door speakers. I would also pull the head unit and unplug and plug everything back in just to see if there is a bad connection.

I'd still say swapping out the head unit is the best bet. If it doesn't fix it, you can always resell it on ebay and get most of your money back.

Thanks, i was alredy planning on swapping out the speakers for ones i had im my last car, some kicker 5x7's and 6.5's. So hopefully, that solves the problem, if not, i'll try replacing the head unit for the one i bought on ebay, which i think i have to pull anyway to install this fm modulator. That code is weird, because the cd changer works fine, its just the door speakers.

Also, i should note, that this happened to me along time ago with my old taurus. There was a short in one of the speakers and they all ceased working. The same popping noise occured. I had forgotten about this until now. Im hoping its the same case, as my head unit is in really good condition without any scratches or worn buttons. thanks again for the help.
