I'm looking to replace my factory speakers. For now I'll be keeping the factory head unit but will be looking into aftermarket head units this winter. Im curious which 6x8 setups are considered top of the line right now and your opinions to help me find a great sound are appreciated!

I'm running Kenwood Excelons in the front and Pioneers in the rear w/an Alpine sub in the trunk. Pretty happy so far.

I would suggest going to a 5.25" or a 6.5" rather than a 6x8/5x7. Also, what kind of budget are you looking at and are you planning on adding an amp later on?

Personally, I am a huge fan of CDT Audio, ED 6500's, Rainbows, Boston Acoustic....

If those are not in your budget I would look at Infinity or MB Quarts. From there I would lean towards Alpine or Pioneer

Boston makes a 5x7 componet plate speaker. It is a SL series 5.25 and a tweet on a 5x7 plate. I have installed them into a lot of cars and they really rock. That way you can get a componet set and not have to build pods or anything.

Black03 is right on the money...round speakers (ex. 5.25" or 6.5") sound much better and are what all competion cars use. As for what brand...the question is how much money are you looking to spend??

I'm running JL Audios in the doors and rear package tray. In my vette I run CDT components which are really nice speakers

The JL's I installed in my friend's truck didn't impress me at all.

Not very efficient...they need a lot of power but they sound great.

hey thanks

Well it sounds like going with some plate speakers with 5.25 and tweets all in one is the way to go. I understand bass is hard to get with these smaller speakers, but is this going to delivery better bass than a normal 5x7 speaker?

These Boston Acoustics got good sound? They go for $160ish a pair on Ebay.
