Hi everyone...I am thinking about getting all new speakers for my 01 LS8...the only thing is that I want to leave the head unit in because i just love the way it looks with the wood grain, plus i like the steering controls. would the factory head unit hurt the performance of the new speakers i buy, and basically is this a dumb idea? if not what speakers do you guys recommend just for some ideas. any help would be greatly appreciated.

p.s....i bought clear corner angel eyes from ken garrison LSK...they are great i would recommend them to anyone.

You can still play new "aftermarket" speakers off the factory headunit. You will loose SQ but I would say go with 4 speakers and a 4 ch amp to power them.

no t dumb at all. thats what i did in my ls. yeah u do lose some quality but it doesnt seem like your really going for a big SQ setup so thatll be fine for what u want. i kept my factory hu and replaced all the speakers with 6 boston 5x7s. sounds real good if i may say. i also have 2 15" l7s coming SOON.

yes it was definatly worth it. i installed everythign mysdelf and bought all 3 pair off ebay for a total of 100 bucks. and sq means sound quality

I am nearly positive it means sound quality.........as in the quality of sound......make sense?

If you buy some good speakers and amp them you will be fine. You may be a little lower on the Sq ratins compared to an aftermarket HU but higher up than you are right now with stock speakers.
