What in the sam heck , is causing my mark v111 to sound like its driving over
speed bumps,???
I will drive the car and all of a sudden , speed bump sounds , dont know if its from rear end or the motor. If I had to choose I would say rear end,
Transmission, Crap if I know. lol
I asked a couple of mechanics and they dont know either,
Thought I would try this and see if you mark v111 fans could help or
have heard of this one?
Just bought it and love it. Nice car, Black, and loaded with power and all
kinds of gadgets, Im hooked. lol
Wanda :feedback please

Wanda what you have is a common problem. Ball joints have become coroded. And it sounds and feels like you're rolling over speed bumps or bumpy roads. When doing this repair, it is best to change out both ball joints as well as the upper control arms. This is usually why most original owners sell their Marks.
Good Luck. Post some pics of your Mark.

I concur. I was just all up in the underside of my Mark today, and my ball joints are old and need replacing. I have the squeakies too. Shouldn't be too hard, the struts I replaced with coil overs have to be the hardest thing to do under there.

There is nothing wrong with putting on genuine ford parts when it comes to the parts like the upper control arms, it is best to get them from Ford. Max with Five Star Ford has the best deals. Ball joints can be bought at any auto parts store. It is also best that since this work needs to be done, that is the time to decide if you want to keep the air ride system or go with the coil spring replacements. All in all this is about $600.00 in parts not including labor. A lot of new Mark owners don't know this up front. Once you get past these problems, it should be smooth driving after that.

Autozone doesn't carry the end links for the front, but Advance Auto Parts does, $39.99 each for the TRW part.

How much could someone expect to pay for ball joints for an VIII? (Autozone, Napa, etc.)
Ball Joints cost me $42.00 each. Then I took them to a machine shop and had them pressed into the lower control arm.
You know Black87LSC, this is a lot of information. This is good info for you to have when searching for a Mark to Buy. The first thing I would look at is the suspension. If you see rotted bushings on the upper and lower control arms immediately decrease your price by $1000. If however you get a Gen II Mark, you may have many years of driving before you will have to worry about it.

Road Bumper Sound

Sorry to disagree... but your tranny is making that noise! Look in this forum under transmission shudder. You'll see your exact prob discribed. I've owned three Mks and all three had this sound. You need a COMPLETE trans flush, including torque converter and repl the trans cooler. Must install MERCON V fluid. Total cost is about $350. See this link. There is a service bulletin on this matter. http://www.markviii.org/psjs_faqs/09294835.shtml

Good Luck
