springs on brake pads

What are the springs for on the brake pads on my 97 mkviii? How do they sit into the caliper? and has anybody ever used satisfied ceramic brake pads on their mark? Any help would be appreciated.

They just sit in the channels in the top of the caliper.


I use Napa's Ceramix pads, and LOVE em.
