hey guys,

so whenever I press down on the brake pedal, the pedal makes a squeaky/creaky noise and the acceleration pedal does the same at times. I was wondering what could be causing this squeaking noise from the pedals. It's an 04 lincoln ls v6.

Thanks

My brake pedal also makes a weird noise sometimes.

so i have discussed this with the dealer. there is a solenoid/pump that is the cause of this problem in some cases. the other thing, before you change this, is to get down there, pull off the rubber boot and grease. that made it a little better, but i need to get the pump/solenoid thing changed. we are coming on to cooler weather now, and the noise seems to go away in that temp, so i'm going to wait until next year.

there is an elaborate article out here argueing why this noise is the master cylinder. i have discussed this with the mechanic at lincoln, and he doesn't agree with that assessment.

also, this is fairly common in ford cars, although my dealer hasn't seen it as bad as it is in my car...

thanks!i don't have much time to check but will check it asap...if not, i know a mechanic so maybe I'll ask him when I go back into town as im out of town right now

i understand that many people work on their own cars, and i think that's great and i wish i had more time to do that. that may change in the future, but for now i find it easier to take it to the mechanic.

that brings me to my next point. i used to take my ls to a brand name service shop like firestone or goodyear ( i don't really want to say which, since i don't blame them per se), and they really did a good job trying to find solutions to some of the problems i had over the years. but, there came a time when i felt they were unsure about what they were doing, and i took my car to the local lincoln dealership.

since them, i have found it's best to go to them if you are going to use a mechanic. while they charge more, i'd say that this may be offset by the less time it takes them to diagnose your problem- in terms of number of visits and repairs. plus, lincoln has a rewards program that adds up a percent of the money you spend towards future work (they know you're coming back ;) haha).

the reason i mention this: i took my car to the local shop for the squeaky brake pedal and he didn't know waht was up. i went to lincoln, and they got in the car, pressed the pedal a few times, came out and told me what's what. also reassured me and said, drive on until you want to get it done. charge? nothing.

they know their cars. generally speaking. i'm sure there are exceptions.

^^ Only problem is I don't want to drive to Tulsa or Springfield to get my car problems diagnosed. When I bought my car there were 3 Lincoln dealers within 20 miles of me. They have all gone out of business in the past 5 years and all I'm left with is a Ford/Mopar dealer. I am not impressed with them so I go to the Firestone, SpeedLube, and the smaller shops for service and rely on the guys here for the more car specific details.

Thanks again guys.

that makes sense. i also meant to say that my experience probably is somewhat unique. when i lived in toronto, we hardly took our car to the dealer. they always charged more and, from our experience, hardly ever did a better job. the smaller shops, and mechanics with a good rep, were the way to go.

i'm sure there are some of those in tulsa too; for a variety of reasons, mostly time, i just haven't looked around much.
