I had my 92 LSC SE out today and the air bag light would flash on-off at times. The car only has 50K on it and I am getting ready to sell it. The car is not driven often and is in near mint condition. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this ? I'm not an electrical expert, but I'm hoping It's a sensor and is something that I could fix without having to pay a tech to do it. The Mark has always been such a great car and I have never had this problem on any other car,so I'm in the dark. Thanks for any help.

Hi,
50K?
Let's hope that it gooes into good hands.

Those flashes make up a code. The code tells us what is wrong. Safety-wise, disconnect the batter and go have lunch. 60 minutes later, you MIGHT be safe manually diagnosing the system.

The most common thing that I've seen is cracked crash sensors (there are four) or loose connections. Unless you're comfortable about taking the driver's side kick panel off and moving a HUGE harness to get to the fourth sensor, then start up front with the other three :)

The sensors are mounted to the front top supports by GREEN bolts and face down. You'll need an inspection mirror to see the actual `face' of the sensor. If it's cracked, replace it immediately. After checking for cracks, track each sensor to it's connection. DS and center are connected on the DS wheel well with white connectors that look the same. I forget where the PS connection is.

If this low budget test yeilds nothing noticeable, then you'll have to search for 'safety air bag codes' to learn to decifer what's going on.
