I have one. Want one? Comes with a deep charcoal leather shifter knob. $75 plus shipping to the lower 48.

Installation is pretty easy. You'd just need your dealer to reprogram the pcm to a sport calibration. Otherwise, when the shifter is in D4, the trans is actually in 3rd (which the display shows). Even without the reprogram, the SST funtion still works perfectly.

the sport model already has one - he's talking about the conversion for a non-sport.

THere are threads on this already.

i would kill for one of those. contact me for purchase info, ill take it right now lol

I have a question about the conversion. I have a 2003 LS V8 Sport with SST and a 2003 Thunderbird without SST.

I was told about a conversion on a Thunderbird site that allowed you to add the shifter, bezel, and wiring harness (cost me about $240.00).

When I installed it, the autostick part worked great, but the manual downshift into what should be 4th, actually took me to 3rd. (Remember that the non-SST 5th to 4th is a rock to the right of shifter triggering a electro-switch. The SST 5th to 4th I think is a physical manual linkage shift - not electric-switch driven.

So here's my question - I can have the dealer do a "SST" program to he trans and have the manual pull of the lever into 4th will really be 4th? I removed the shifter and put the stock back in because I lost the D4 (auto-4th). When I pulled it into what should be 4th, it was really 3rd, and would start off in 3rd from a light, unless I went into SST mode, or back to D5

Thanks - Mike

So the shifter and program is all I need for the conversion?

right. the PCM programming change corrects this.

I never got the change done - how often does someone actually use D4? - especially now that I have SST.

just the shifter. the PCM program change is optional and I never got it done.

When I installed my SST shifter I took it to the dealer to have them program the PCM to show it in D4 when not in SST mode. Well, they banted around and never could figure out how to re-program it and said they couldn't do it. Now, the dealer I take my car to is very reputable and knowledgable. However, I'm wondering if it actually can be done without getting another PCM code for a sport?

It may be more effective to see if the SCT tuner can change that setting - then you get that plus a better engine tune, firmer shifts, ...etc.

Since I am running a tune - it would have simply over-written the dealer setting anyway.

I have two responses so far. JaredLS is first, followed by gt95coupe.

Ken,

I was going to put it in my wife's LS, but as her's will be the one going for the '06, I didn't see the point. That, and she-who-must-be-obeyed wasn't too keen on the idea. And after all, it is her LS.

your forgetting about me! lol im interested in buying that piece as well. so if the other dont want ill send you the money for it right now.

Quik will it fit a v6? Is it even woth the change? Also how hard is it to change the knob? I have the wood grain and like it. :L

I hate to bust everyone's bubble but it looks like I was the first to post which was right after Mike posted it. However, I'm not that hard up for it. I was thinking of a local LS owner here that I know was wanting one.

Each man for himself I guess.

This will fit the V6 or V8. If you like to change gears without a clutch then this is what you need. Also, you can control the shift points better.

As for the knob, it's very simple to change. Just push down the black ring at the bottom of the knob and it will expose two phillips head screws. Just take those out and yank real hard up. Be sure your face isn't in the way when you pull up. Some come out easy and others come out FAST! Just reverse the operation to put the other knob on.

Do you recommend an sct flasher? I saw on another thread that it only gave the v6 bout a nother 9hp. what else is it good for 2002 ls6 nonsport

I would recommend the SCT flasher to anyone. It's definitely a good bang for the buck. As for other performance enhancements do you have a stainless intake tube and KKM induction kit?

Ken,

You know I wouldn't lie to you or blow you off, but JaredLS sent a pm about 15 minutes before your reply. I wasn't sure how serious you were, but as your post preceeds gt95coupe's by a few hours, you've moved up to #2, if you still want it, and JaredLS backs out. Cool??

That's cool! I was looking out for a buddy here in town that has an LS. He was wanting to swap out his shifter but I think he's gonna trade it in for something else. If Jared wants then that's cool. If not, then let the next person get it. I'll sit on the sidelines this time. :Beer

I called my dealership and they could not figure out how to reprogram the pcm b/c they said there was not a sport or a non-sport option it went by VIN only. Do you guys know a way around this program problem? Do I need a sct flasher or should I see if i could find a random v6 sport vin and get them to use it rather than mine? Do I have to send them my pcm to get the flashing done? :L

Here's the proceedure, as used by a Lincoln dealer shop foreman:

Plug the car into the WADS,
-When the WADS asks if the displayed vin is correct, enter "NO"
-When prompted for the correct vin, enter the car's vin (yes, I know it's the same vin, but the computer has already forgotten what vin it displayed)
-A menu of calibrations will pop up. Select the 50 state version of the sport calibration.
-Your installed SST shifter will now function correctly (as in you'll have D4).

I know this works as I watched it done 3 times!
