Stalling at Slow Speeds

Hi all,

I am a proud owner of an automatic 2000 LS V6 I picked up over the summer. Recently I've had a problem where the car stutters and stumbles at low speeds and idling. I've searched the threads on here and found it could be multiple things such as a dirty IAC, MAF, as well as leaks in some hoses.

However, due to time constraints and since I am new to this car, I'm not too familiar with the engine bay and would like help in pin-pointing the problem. This problem first appeared on my drive home from work which is basically traffic that is crawling from 5-10 mph with constant stopping. When idling, the car's rpms would drop below the normal and when accelerating from a stop, it will buckle and I will have to give it more than enough gas to get it going. The problem also seems to get worse the longer I drive (as in the car will buckle more and the rpms drop below idle more often) and does not happen when the car is at speed (above 20mph).

I've also learned that if I am stopped and the rpms drop, I can put the car in neutral, gas it a bit, then shift to drive and the car will take off with less buckling.

Please provide any info you guys can to help me out. This car has been pretty awesome so far and I wish to get this thing figured out before the cold Canadian winter hits.

On the V6 there is a hose all the way in the back of the engine on the drivers side which is known to fail. It did as welll on my first LS I ever bought back in 2000. I think its a PCV hose. Check this for leaks.

I believe the main culprit (leaking hose) is located under the intake manifold isn't it?

There were a couple hoses that went bad, but cant remember the other ones, Its been a long time since I had the 2000 V6.

Thanks for the help so far.

I did more testing today and found a new problem/symptom. If I put the car in park, and rev it past 3000 rpm, the engine will struggle and shake etc.

I'm beginning to think this is not a leaking hose problem but maybe spark related? Hopefully it is nothing too serious. Please provide any insight.

The car has a rev limiter that will not let it past 3000 in Park or Neutral

Deliciousdaly: I always use 91 or above gas so that can't be the problem.

Quik LS: I never knew about the rev limiter on this car on Neutral or Park. That helps me eliminate one of the symptoms thanks for the info.

Well I'm going to go into my friend's shop and try to see if any of the hoses are cracked or leaking. Hopefully it doesn't take too long as I see it takes a while to get to those areas on this car. If not I guess I will go with the popular consensus and replace the coils, plugs, and valve gasket even though that'll break my bank for this month.

So to replace the parts I can just follow the tech article on this website? It seems to be a real PITA to get to the lower 3 plugs. I can't believe how bad lincoln designed these cars to get there!
