I have a 2000 LS v8. I bought a 2002 LS Sport that had supposedly jumped time for a great price. I've robbed quite a few parts from it and I really want to swap the transmissions.

My question is what all do I need from the 02 to change the transmission. Is it plug an play or do I need the computer along with it?

I've looked on that thread and have done a search without any luck. From what I've read, I was under the impression that the standard transmission is a 5R55N and the sst was a 5R55S. My original transmission has quite a few more miles and has the issue with seeming to be in neutral after a hard stop. It works ok though. Can anyone verify that I just have to change the shifter? Thanks a lot!

2000-2002....5R55N transmission
2003-2006....5R55S transmission

The ONLY difference between the SST and non-SST is the shifter.

Not completely true.

Some settings in the PCM are different too. (But it will still work without changing them.)

I forgot. The pcm reads the shift pattern differently. I meant there was no difference with the transmission.

Ok. Would it behove me to change the pcm?

You can either live without D4 or have your dealer reprogram your pcm with a "sport" calibration. A "search" will explain it all.

Be warned that if you swap PCMs, you will have to tow your LS to a dealer and pay them to "marry" the swapped PCM to your instrument cluster (has the PATS module in it). Until then, you won't even be able to start it.

Since this fee would be at least as much as the fee to reconfigure your existing PCM, I don't see the value in doing it.

IIRC, you need to change the shifter and then take the car to the dealer and have them flash the software so the SST will work.

The SST will work just fine. You will just lose D4 unless a dealer reflashes the PCM.

Details: in d4 position, you actually get "3". As in the same as selecting "3" on the standard shifter. The dealer re-program just changes so that position selects D4

I have an 03 ls with the sst and the 5R55S that just went out I also have an 04 ls that has a blown engine with the 5R55S without the sst could I swap em out?

There is no difference between SST and non-SST at all as far as the transmission itself is concerned.
SST is just a different shifter (inside the car only) and a slightly different PCM calibration.

OP, beside the shift swap, if you do the swap be sure while you have the tranny out to do a total rebuild in the controls (valve body etc). I just had mine done after buying it with 99k tenderly driven and well maintained miles from 1st owner. No one could really say what the problems were (another thread here goes into detail), but the tranny guy that finally solved the problem stated whilst not finding a broken spring at first, it crumbled in his fingers when he went to pull it.

I did a lot of forum reading prior to this, here and others and I am pretty certain that alot of problems could be solved with shift kit change and solenoids. As the guys say too, maybe the PCM.
