I thought my battery might be going bad but the more I think about it the more I think it is my starter. I turn the key, hear one click and keep holding the key to the start position and then it turns over after holding the key there for about five seconds. I'm looking under the car now to find the location of the starter and I am having trouble locating it(to check connections). Once I figure out where it is I will be able to decide if it will be difficult to replace. If it is then I will pay the $300 for the dealership to do it. Has anyone replaced thiers before?

What year LS? Original battery? Sounds like a battery or solenoid to me.

It is a 2000 with 51,000 miles on it and it is the orginal battery which is why I thought the battery at first but it doesn't do it all the time. I can go a week and not have a problem even with the car not being started for a couple of days. Then I will drive it a couple times and the next day less then 24hrs after driving it the car will act up. I read on here the solenoid is part of the starter so I would have to replace the whole thing? I know it sounds like both to me but deciding on which one it is where I have the trouble.

I'd still go with the battery. The intermintent condition sounds like a cell or more in the battery may be dead, or dying. What color is the "eye". That won't tell you much, though, as it only detects one cell.

I put the black plasitc shield back on underneath the engine and started the car, it was definately a weak start so I'm back to thinking it's the battery also. The eye is green which I don't trust too much anyway. Thanks for your help and I will be replacing my battery soon.

What you waiting on....... get that battery changed!?

Just kidding! I would say start there, hopefully thats all it is.
