Every once in a while (about once a month) I get in my car (1994 Mark VIII) after it sits for 8+ hours and it has trouble starting. It will crank and crank and crank until i have almost killed the battery. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes of actual cranking before the vehicle will start. It sounds like it is not getting fuel, but fuel problems usually have a smell, don't they? Then all of a sudden it will just fire up like nothing is wrong! I can turn the car off and it will start right up with no problems at all! Anybody have this problem?? Any solutions? Is it a sensor or something? HELLLPP!!

Fuel pump?

How many miles on the car? Do you hear the fuel pump when you switch the ignition to the accessories mode? (Right before start)

Do you have access to a Fuel Pressure Gauge? If not, I think AutoZone rents them. See what your fuel pressure is. Simple check.

Man, this is weird...yesterday, my 98 Mark did the same thing!!!!! No sh___t!

My gauge told me I had 50 miles left in gas. It was parked on the lawn tilting to the left.

cranked and cranked but nothing happened.

I got my gas can and dumped about 2 gallons into the tank.

Started almost immediately!!!

I think I was so low on gas and tilted in such a way that it wasn't pulling anything into the pump.

My wife did the same to our '93 when we first got it.

As bryan said.......Check your cam and crank sensors. Also, the wiring terminals that go to them. The crank position sensor wires have been known to corrode, and cause the problems you are having.

Usually more the wiring than the terminals. Especially in salt (winter) conditions. Also, spark plug gap can be an issue if way out of wack.

Check your gas filter. The one on the frame-rail.

You also may have moisture in the tank. Pour two or three bottles of 'rubbing' alcohol in the tank.
