Stats Question

What are the stats on the '86 5.0 HO motor? I have looked through all the pages here and haven't seen a single Turbo or SUpercharger upgrade, is there a reason? I see a few NOS posts and one maybe cam upgrade. Also, what is the "silencer" I read about, is it an exhaust baffle or something? How do I get rid of it? :Beer

The silencer is on the intake inside your wheelwhell, take it off.

u should be able to use the supercharger kit for the 5.0 mustang since you have the same engine. You might want to check your vin if you have the 200hp or 225 hp engine, but I believe the 86 has the 2oo hp. in 87 some had the 200 and some had the 225, mine has the 225. I think the different hp comes from a slightly different cam as far as i know. Hope that helps a little.

Cams are the same. The difference is the lower intake, smaller TB/EGR spacer, crappy E6 heads and flat top pistons.

It's not all THAT bad, though. I got the car down to 14.9 @ 92 in the 1/4 after I put the 5 speed in. Then I fried some rings. D'oh lol

Hey, I have been looking but I can't find a code for anything other than 5.0 V8, what is the code for the 200hp vs the 225hp version?

If it has the original motor in it, its a 200hp 5.0

I believe the ratings are 200hp@4000rpm
285lb-ft@3000rpm


The 225hp ratings from somewhere in 1987 and up are 225hp@4200rpm
300lb-ft@3200rpm
