Over the past week my lincoln has been having some weird electronic issues. I have an 03 Lincoln LS V8. A couple of days ago I was getting a message that said "Fuel Computer Data Error". It would pop up and go away within a second. The Fuel gauge did not change at all. It would flash once every 5-10 minutes or so. The car was running fine with no issues.

Yesterday my display said "ETC Engine Failsafe Mode". I shut it off and restarted it a few times and it was still coming up. I drove it around my neighborhood and it was running fine. There were no limitations on my rpms or anything. Later on that night I started my car up and the display is blank. It isn't displaying my miles until empty or anything. I tried hitting the status, reset, fuel buttons above the radio and it won't display anything. The car is still running fine with no issues. I checked the fuse and the fuse is fine.

Anybody have any ideas what it could be? I do have an aftermarket remote starter on it that has been installed for about a year. I don't know if a bad connection with any of that stuff would cause my issue or not. Thanks in advance guys!

There have been cases on here of "fuel data error" being caused by remote start systems when they fail to properly power everything that is needed in the correct sequence. However, your symptoms (comes and goes) are a little different. It could be the wiring of the remote start if the install was done poorly. It could also be unrelated.

The CAN bus is common to both of your problems. It is used to communicate to the REM, so a CAN bus problem can cause the fuel data error. Also, it is used to communicate to the ABS, so it could cause the ETC failsafe. (There are a few different ETC failsafe modes. The most common one is due to a problem (real or imagined) with the throttle body or pedal. This one causes the extreme limitation of engine power. The one you seem to be having is the one where the PCM doesn't know how fast the car is going (the ABS tells it how fast). In this case, the throttle control algorithm changes, but you won't notice the difference.)

Some electrical system problem might also be causing enough electrical noise to be your problem. Suspects would be ignition coils, alternator, battery, DCCV, ...

I'm not sure why the message center would be completely blank, unless maybe it has failed. Do you still get chimes? Any tones when you press the message center buttons?

Thanks joegr! I get chimes when my door is open and the key is in the ignition. I don't get any tones when I press any of the message center buttons. Also my parking brake does't work or chime when I try to turn it on. My advancetrac works but does not chime when I press it.

Is there any way to check the CAN bus to try to diagnose whats going on?

Thanks!

So I went to the dealership and had them scan my car. It came up with the following codes:

U1262-HEC SCP data link fault
B1875-HEC Turn signal/hazard switch signal circuit failure
B1352-HEC Ignition key in circuit fault
U1041-HEC SCP invalid or missing data for function read vehicle speed

Also after they ran the scanner, now the advancetrac icon is flashing and won't go away. I checked the wiring for the remote start and didn't see anything wrong blatantly wrong. They didn't do the greatest job of splicing wires but everything was connected.

Any ideas what my problem could be? Thanks guys!

And in my case, it can disable Advance Trac. On the flip side, my remote start doesn't even crank the engine any more.
