Hey,

I’ve searched through some threads and most of them were all saying the same diagnosis for the issue; however, the vibration still is occurring in my steering wheel at 50+ mph (almost seems like I can feel it in the seat around 20 mph too albeit the roads around here aren’t the greatest).
I’ll explain the issue in full though. I had a new set of tires put on October of last year (still had stock 17” rims at the time), over the course of a few months I noticed a slight vibration around 65mph. I then went back to the place I received the tires from, thinking it was a balancing issue. They told me that it was an alignment issue. I then had alignment, rotation, and balance done. After this was done it felt like a death machine going down the road, felt vibrations at low speeds of 15-40 in seat and steering wheel and at 50-70 (dare not try any faster) the steering wheel would shake so much it felt like it would rip out of my hand.

I then preceded to take the vehicle to another mechanic that I trust for a majority of my work (feeling as though I couldn’t trust the last place I had taken it to), he replaced the sway bar links and control arms (please note that last summer I had replaced the front tie rods, struts, rotors, and pads) and the vibration still continued. As he did not have a machine to try rebalancing the tires again he took it to someone he deals with frequently to do so and that person also said that it looked like two of the rims were bent.

I replaced the rims I had with a new set of 17x7.5 ones so that I could still use the same set of tires (even got the hub rings to go with it 74mm to 63.36mm). Had the rims swapped out and the issue stated in the first paragraph continued. The place that swapped out the rims told me that two of the tires were out of round. I went back to the tire place again to have the tires sent back to the factory to get the warranty on them; the tire place gave me two used tires to use for the duration of this, but I still have the same vibration that was previously stated even after taking off the two “out of round” tires. (Also note they said that it was the front driver and rear passenger that were bad, those two were taken off and the other good rear tire was moved up front and the two used were placed on the rear).

Still love the car (2002 LSE w/123k on it), but this issue has been driving me insane the last couple of months.

Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

I think you need to get the car on a lift and start prying at every suspension part to find what's loose. If the wheels were bent significantly, then I suppose that could wear the tires out of round.

8 control arms with 6 ball joints and I assume 16 body bushings and whatever it has in the rear lower wheel end of the arms.

You also have 2 tie rods in the front and 2 similar toe/lateral rods in the rear. My initial vibrations came primarily from the rear rods, while some came from a worn front upper ball joint (requires new control arm)

4 wheel bearings

But as I said, you'll need to find what's worn
