ok, i got an aftermarket head unit, i had my jl subs hooked up and my infinity 6x8`s in the rear deck in that console the stock subs were in. i had the alpine system with the 6 disc changer.

i blew the infinity`s twice using half the reccomdened power. im trading them in for mb quart dtf 169 6x9`s. my question is i want to put them in the rear deck but not in that sub enclosuer. will they fit in the rear deck if i mount them there? in other words, pull off the grills on the rear deck put the speakers in there, and screw them in?

if your using the smae opening, then no a 6x9 will not ffit in a 6x8 opening, they are an inch longer, but i dont really understand what your asking.

ok, i know that the 6x9`s will not fit in the stock sub woofer opening. let me try and explain it better. if you look on my back deck, there are 2 grills from where the stock subs were, if i pull off those metal grills and place a 6x9 in there, will it fit

You might want to either increase the power going to the speakers or find a set of speakers that are rated at the power your giving them. The reason why most speakers blow is because your not giving them enough power, which inturn caused them to distort and then blow. Remember it is always better to overpower a speaker than to under power. As for puting 6x9's there, I have seen other people do it, but they say it doesn't sound good, but I plan on doing the same thing anyway.

I'm sure they would sound alot better at 100W vs 40W, once you get them installed try them both ways, and you'll hear the difference.
