1) I think I screwed up the installation somewhere. My front door speakers work, but the front console speakers (in the carpet by the driver/passenger legs) don't seem to be working. I used a wiring harness and just connected the harness wires with the stereo wires. Is there something else I have to do to hook these two speakers up?

On my amp harness, I only have 1x Red and 1x White RCA, which I hooked up to the rear speaker plugs on the stereo. Am I supposed to get another RCA cable for the front plugs on the stereo too?

Are these the two "front tweeters" mentioned in this thread?

2) Trying to install Axxess ASWC to get the steering wheels control working with the aftermarket stereo. It says I need to connect the Red and Black wires from the ASWC, but I already used up those wires from the harness (vehicle -> stereo). So where am I supposed to connect this Red and Black from the ASWC...?

[Edit:] Oh man, that took forever. Just spent like 8 hours working on the stereo, but finally got everything working.

RE: 1) the amp harness actually has two speakers on each RCA cable. I think red ended up being front, white ended up being back. Originally, I thought both the left and right in the back, so I had them plugged into the REAR white/red plugs on the stereo. But now I fixed it, got the white on the REAR audio (stereo), and the red on the FRONT audio (stereo). Finally had sound coming from those two inside speakers.

RE: 2) Had to undo my harness-stereo butt connections. Then I twisted together the red and black cables from both the stereo and AWSC together, and then used a butt to connect that twisted cable with the harness. That's all it took to get steering wheel controls working.

Hey I'm planning to install a new stereo too. First time here. What I don't understand is on my amp harness there are two blue and white wires. Only one on the stereo. Am I supposed to connect them all together? Thanks.

Connect the one wire from your radio to two 1K ohm resistors. Connect the other end of one resistor to one of the blue/white wires, and connect the other end of the other resistor to the other blue/white wire.

Note that you are fooling yourself if you think that connecting the center image speakers to your left or right output is going to sound better than not connecting it them at all. They work okay when driven from the center channel DSP of the factory headunit, but they just confuse things when you connect both of them as front left or front right.

Haha.. I sort of fooled myself thinking it would be as simple as I figured it would. :p
Still, I like to at least attempt to do things myself.

yes, if you dont have a resistor inline as Joe mentioned, you will get a "pop" every time the amps turn on and off...

and I fully agree, without the proper DSP to actually take advantage of them, the center console speakers are useless with a normal radio, their locations not ideal for proper time alignment and staging...

its really not that hard as long as you know what your doing (I probably woundnt want my first radio install to be in an LS) there are a few extra steps but as long as you take it one step at a time, you should be fine. there are more than a few great step by step threads that should help so as long as you can follow directions, give it a go.

Okay, cool. Yeah I was trying to search for a step by step for a gen 2, but there is a lot to go through and I haven't found much that was helpful.

honestly which gen it is doesn't matter. the only differences would be which harness you would use (wiring it up is exactly the same) and a step or two around the ashtray, but thats still 95% the same...

the link in the original post is a great place to start, also there are instructions for first gen in the tech articles at the top of the page.

Thanks a lot guys! Great info. Very helpful. I got it all sorted out. Just waiting for the 12v to 5v step down to finish up the job.
