Stereo Questions. . .

SOOOO - I am trying to figure out what stereo that my car came with stock. Insurance is giving me 1,500 for replacing the navigation unit that was taken when my car was jacked. See thread "Really?! D@mn Thieves". I am looking on Crutchfield and they are asking if I have the 4 speaker or 12 speaker stereo. I have found six, the four doors and two tweeters mounted in the center column, however I don't have a clue where the other six would be though. Any help guys?

There should be 2 more in the rear deck in that housing underneath (black plastic enclosure with 6x9's I believe), that's all I know of maybe someone else knows where the rest are. Good luck with everything.

You have the 12 then.
2 per door x 4 doors = 8
2 center
2 subwoofer (rear deck)

^ +1....If you have ever taken the stock speakers out, they are enclosed and there are 2 speakers in each 6x8 enclosure.

In the doors, behind the speaker grilles.

Unless your car came stock with the NAV/THX (doubtful as the THX/NAV system didn't come with the console speakers) you should have 12 speakers; a 2-way 5X7 in each door (8), 2 subs in the rear deck and the two console speakers. There is a chance you don't have the subs; I don't remember when they were added, deleted and added again.

the lincoln ls has 2 on each door a medium and a tweeter so that makes 8 in the doors 2 in the center and 2 in the back that makes 12 the same as my ls

This puzzled me too.. I knew I had more than four because I had the center speakers.. Good info..

What other stuff are you referring to? Are you talking about the speakers?

well i guess it gonna depend on if you get them used (junk yard) or if you buy new parts (dealer)

it aint going to be cheap to get a center vent w/message center buttons, DATC, and bracket from a dealer.

they better give you some money to replace the f#*&ed up dashboard too, god , i couldn't imagine how much that would cost to replace, wouldn't think that that would be something the dealer would have stocked somewhere, probably have to go to a junkyard for sure on that one.
