Sticky shifter

My gear shifter is very sticky coming out of park, especially if the car has sat for some time. The push button resists gong in. After quite a bit of wiggling it will come out of park. After that it will shift freely, even if returned to park. It's not a brake issue. At least I don't think so. Turning the key on but not started and attempting to shift into neutral makes no difference. It's the same issue. Sometimes I actually don't think I'm going to get it out of park.

Any help would be appreciated!

The only time I have had that problem is when I am having a bulb out or the brake light switch failure. I had to replace it on both my GenI and GenII.
