I noticed today that my drivers door speaker doesn't seem to be working. If I run the balance over to the left you can just barely hear music, and at a much lower volume then the other speakers. I turned off all the DSP settings but still get the same result. The car is an 02 LSE with the alpine system. Anyone have any idea on where to start troubleshooting?

Thanks

Well I got it figured out. I'm actually more then a little embarrassed to post this, but in hopes that it will save someone else the frustration... here goes. When I got to work last night I hopped in my work car and turned on the radio, it has the same problem, no sound on the driver side. After the initial "what the..." confusion I clicked the radio to a different preset, and the sound comes back. Turns out that for whatever reason, the local radio station that I happened to be listening to was only broadcasting on the one channel all weekend. So when I get back in my LS after work and tune a different station or play a CD everything is fine. Moral of the story, try a different source or two.

Thanks again for the help though.

Replace the speakers. They go out pretty consistently.

Say what? I've heard of very few factory speakers "going-out". They are simple paper, whizzer-cone speakers that have been used in automobiles for longer than either one of us have been alive. The Alpine uses a plate with two separate speakers. IIRC, even the stock subs are paper cones.

And they tend to "go out" because the paper can't take the bass.. I really haven't heard of the doors failing a lot..

I replaced all four door speakers because they couldn't handle the bass...all busted on me.

shake the door, see if you hear any water... also there are 2 drain spots at the bottom of the door, remove and see if any water comes out, take the door panel off and look for water damage, check the weather strips near the window.

i replaced my door speakers with modified powerhorns from radioshack

At least in my vehicles, the surrounds tend to break apart after 5 to 10 years. Happens with both cheap foam surrounds and nice rubber surrounds.
Naturally, it doesn't sound to great after that.
Don't know if you consider that "going out", but I at least consider it "broke".

Yeah oem speakers are never really well made and wont hold up as long as aftermarket ones. even with the premium sound thx system the speakers are cheap.

luckily mine are still good (previous owner didnt listen to bass heavy music) since i lowered my bass down to half and just use the sub for bass.

Actually, my first troubleshooting step in cases like this would be to try another station and then another input source. I guess that the older you are the more likely weird stuff has happened to you. I've had radio stations do this and more before.
