I just signed up for SunRocket, a VoIP provider. For those of you that don't know, VoIP is simply getting a telephone through your internet connection. You would most likely be familiar with Vonage, as they have the most aggresive ad campaign. I have not started using it yet, and will let you all know what I think of it as time goes by. In the mean time, if anyone is interested in their service, I have a promotional code that will get you a free set of phones: 2407949919. Although they are not perfect, they seem to be one of the best providers out there. And if you pay the one-time yearly fee of $199, it's one of the cheapest as well. Check www.sunrocket.com for more specifics. I hope this helps somebody out!

Never heard of SunRocket but I love my Vonage and would never go back to SWB

I heard something on the news about some family that got robbed and shot or something and they couldn't call 911 because they had Vonage and it wouldn't let them call for some reason. I don't even have a house phone, I just use my cell for everything. College budget.

The lack of E911 support is a leading concern with VoIP service. SunRocket is among the leaders in the VoIP market to get E911 service, and make it very clear during sign-up that you must accurately provide all necessary information so that your VoIP phone number can be linked to the E911 system. Most big VoIP providers are making sure that the E911 service is active with their service. The potency of the E911 system has been drastically reduced in recent years with the increased affordability of cellular phones, which as lead many people to abandon land lines, and now moreso with the advent of quality VoIP service.

So far I am impressed, although I have only had it for less than a day. I ordered it on Wednesday and the package arrived on Friday, much faster than the suggested 5-7 business days. Easy to install and set up, and I had a dial tone instantly. However, I could not complete my outgoing calls. I checked my email and sure enough SunRocket had sent out an email stating that there were issues being resolved. A few hours later another email came stating that the issue should be resolved, and sure enough it was! I am impressed with the fact that they contacted their customers in reference to an outage; I've never had that happen with any other company before. The quality of the phone connection is the same as a regular land line, and the Uniden phones are actually quite nice. So, after the initial day with their service, I think I've received an excellent deal.

Well, more positive feedback from me. Today I am able to recieve incoming calls, two business days after recieving the system, which also came early. SunRocket suggested it would take 5-10 business days for incoming calls to be activated, so again they have provided service much quicker than anticipated. I ordered the service last Wednesday, so in 4 business days they have me up and running, when they claimed that it would take 5-7 business days just to recieve the package! They are still doing good in my book.

Why does it take time? my Vonage worked as soon as I plugged it all in incoming and outgoing

Again, more good feedback. From the minor issues they were having, which I actually had little impact from, they have more than doubled their capabilities in that area. As an "appology" they offered 10 of their redemption points, which you use to get gift cards and things like that. Obviously it's not a huge display, but it is something. I am just impressed that they actually make contact with their customers about their issues and keep us up to date on the situation.
