Help us keep this TV ad about Iraq on the air so President Bush can't change the subject to September 11. We need to raise $250,000 today. Will you contribute?

Dear MoveOn member,

Last night, President Bush tried to rescue his failed Iraq policy in a nationally televised address by connecting the Iraq war to the war on terror. He is trying to change the subject from Iraq to terrorism and September 11—implying that Iraq attacked us in 2001.

To keep Bush from changing the subject, we've started running a new TV ad about Iraq. But to keep the advertising on the air, we need to raise $250,000 today. Just $50 from 5,000 of us will make a big difference. Will you contribute to help stop Bush from changing the subject?

Even a small contribution will keep the ads running if we all chip in. And, if we raise $500,000, we can expand the advertising into the hometowns of Republican members of Congress who will have tough elections in 2006.

That will help send a signal that Congress will pay a price at the ballot box because of the Iraq failures. The president's speech provided political cover to a lot of members of Congress—letting them get away with not supporting an exit strategy—but we can help neutralize that with the ad campaign. If you don't live in one of those congressional districts, this is your chance to make a huge difference by supporting this ad.

The ad, titled "Hagel," draws a sharp contrast between President Bush's claim that we're making progress in Iraq and the words of Republican Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, who said, "The White House is completely disconnected from reality... It's like they're just making it up as they go along."1 Then, the ad calls for an exit strategy, saying, "It's time to come home. We went in the wrong way, let's come home the right way." An exit strategy with a timeline is supported by nearly 84% of MoveOn members according to the recent vote.

Supporting this ad will also show that we won't run away when the Republicans attack. Over the last couple of days, the Bush White House has begun openly attacking MoveOn by name—even accusing us of siding with the terrorists and wanting to make America less safe. It started with lies in a speech by Bush spin-master Karl Rove last week but quickly followed with attacks on "The Today Show" by White House Communications Director Dan Bartlett. Then, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld took a swipe at MoveOn on Sunday talk shows.

We can't let them get away with this. It's the Iraq war that's making America less safe—not the 3.3 million of us in MoveOn.

Because we're out front on Iraq, we can expect more attacks. By standing up to them, we can demonstrate to Democrats that they need not cower when Republicans slander them. But we can't keep these ads on the air without your support. Please contribute at:

The advertising is just the first part of MoveOn's new Iraq campaign. Over the coming weeks and months, we'll be pushing for our leaders in elected office to insist that President Bush put together an exit strategy (a plan!) for Iraq. We'll ask you to get involved in lots of different ways, but right now we really need your help to keep the TV ad on the air.

Thank you for all you do,

Why doesn't Soros just write a check? Now, not only whiny, but beggars as well. Getting more desperate every day, eh.

If that ain't the pot calling the kettle black! Conservatives have been begging for financial support in churches throughout the land. You make me laugh sometimes Bryan. Talk about whiney!

Can you state an example of where conservatives pandered in Church for monies to be used directly in a TV ad campaign? Much less one intended to discredit the President at all costs? If you can, then I'll call that whining too.

I wonder how much they have by now?? WPE (im sure you guys know by now) starts with "worst" and ends with "ever", middle word rhymes with president and is unrelated to WMD.

"worst president ever"

Now if you see the money pouring in it wont be begging now will it. When people see an opportunity to support a change.

If you consider this the liberals pandering, then dont be suprised the conservatives are going to put back up the website where they threaten to shoot the bunny unless you contribute.

42 months and counting

From Rush's site: In addition, the GOP attracted 40% more individual donors! (George W. Bush set an all-time fund-raising record by collecting the most money from one-thousand-dollar donors in the history of presidential politics.) Far more people giving small amounts exist as contributors to the Republican Party - while Democrats skunked the GOP among the super-rich.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Yep, when you're doing the right thing, you don't have to go begging. And most of the money that came into the Democrats came from the super rich. People giving $100,000 plus supported the Democrats by a 12-1 margin. How's that for a fact. The Dems pander to the rich while keeping their thumbs pressed firmly on the foreheads of the poor. How ironic.

And 42 months till we get to slam Hillary and Democrats, keeping the Republicans in charge for another 8 years. Can't wait.

BTW, hear anything on the economy? GDP revised UP in the 1st Qtr to 3.8%. Economy is hot and getting hotter. Consumer Confidence Index at 3 year HIGH. Yep, you won't hear it in the press because it is GOOD news for Americans and we can't have that, can we?

Oh, and can I pile on??? Ronald Reagan just won most important American figure as hosted by that jag-off Matt Lauer. He was gonna cry when he had to announce that Reagan beat George Washington 35% to 34.5%. I loved it. Lauer had to choke it out and then offered up some b.s. excuse as usual.

moveon.org needs to move the Fùck on, draging shlt throw the mud aint going to change a thing. I think bush made a bad choice to go to Iraq but it wasnt just him, he was supplied (at the time ) with "proof" of WMD, and it aint no lie that the middle east hates the US, so attack the threat right. Once we were in we did not find any WMD, so at that point in time were we suppose to just pull out and leave that country in a crap hole and say oops my bad, But Im sick of the worlds bull$hit, America is so evil and jerks or whatever but when something like the tsunami disaster happens everyone looks at the good ol usa for help. but whatever I just pissed off

BuSh lied, many died. Many more will die for his sins.

"Worst President Ever"

Bush made a decison on what he WAS TOLD by intel, I have no doubt that iraq had WMD, every time the UN went in the were bullshlted, iraq moved everything around before they would arrive to a certain location.

We can track a cow back to its original herd but we can't trak WMD. How lame. The buck stops with GWB. Quit blaming the intelligence agencies he's in charge of.

The only people Bush talked to last night were his Rep base who are leaving the fold, trying to draw them back in, and to those who already believe him.

He didn't talk to me to convince me. This was the same old same old, nothing new the same BuSh.

Notice how his hand picked audience didn't applaud very often. (and if you believe this was not one of his had picked staged speaches, I've got a 200K Escort I want to sell you). When is he going to have the guts to go infront of a true American Audience?

He didn't even speak to his military who was present he talked to those Reps who are seeing the truth and now questioning who they elected, and he didn't do a very good job of it.

:bowrofl:

Oh, I forgot all about that...that was friggin hilarious. You know he had the shows producers check the numbers again...

The look on his face was priceless. You could see him swallow. But not nearly as good as the 1994 midterm elections when Republicans took back the House. That was when Dan Rather was on the air and described the results coming in as an immature temper-tantrum. All the major networks anchor-people were acting like deer in the headlights, waiting for something to hit them. It did, the Republican tidal wave. That was a great night and one I'll always remember.

His face was nearly as ashen when GWB won this last election, contrary to exit polling data. You could see him slump lower and lower in his chair as the REAL numbers came in.
