SO my Ls needs a few things I plan on getting to in the next couple months. I need front tires, front brakes, and now it seems coils (occasional miss at idle and as I first take off I can feel hesitation/ missing.)THe car has 177K and I don't know when they were replaced so thats my guess based on what I have sen here.

Now on to the real question. I have a suspension noise that I can not stand! It is very hard to describe but its not a popping, but more of a "rattle," its a lose sound like a tie rod maybe. I only hear it when going over shallower bumps, not really when going over curbs or anything. My brother and I were almost certain it was the struts or strut mounts so we replaced them, and before that I replaced outer tie rods because they were needed. Sound still persists. The sway end links look good as do the upper and lower ball joints and control arm bushings. My questions to you all is: Is there a suspension component on the front of these cars known to fail or be noisy? Anyone have similar issues? I don't want to throw parts at it and not fix it because almost every component of the suspension cost a fortune (compared to my past cars)

Thanks

Change your sway bar links - its cheap, easy, and likely your problem. If not, you didn't spend much time or money.

While you are down there just do everything. Ball joints, tie rods, end links, and sway bar bushing. Unless you are strapped for cash of course. It's not that expensive and it will drastically improve handling. I have all the parts myself. Getting ready to do it on a long weekend.

+1....aka Preach!!! LOL

TDUB- you talking about the end links?

The end links seem good but it wouldn't be bad to replace and cheap

Centason- I wouldn't say it's no exapensive. From what I saw upper control arms/ball joints are 140 a side lowers are a couple hundred, plus the end links and tie rods. That's pretty exspensive. I'm a little strapped to boot. With the other car, bike, etc I don't see it necessary to replace good parts on my daily when they could be good. Rather just replace what's needed at this point.

Thanks everyone. I'm gonna take a closer look and maybe do the sway bar parts since they are cheap and easy compared to the ball joints

If all the rubbers are intact you are golden. If they are rotted and torn, like mine, they need to be replaced. If you decide to do the sway bar bushings, might as well do the end links too.

I was referring to the bushings: http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=33676&highlight=sway+bar+bushings&page=3 I would replace those first and then go from there.

For all you guys on here, I found a great supply of used parts at a breaker in the Irving TX area. I drove 5 hours to buy a hood and trunk lid after some hail damage and was amazed at all the clean and stored parts. I came away with a steering wheel and switches too. They specialize in LS, S-Type ans some BMW.

Lol, give us more info then. Its hard to find anyone that specializes in our car and would care to store anything. ;)
