Ok guys i have a 93 mark8. one day the front goes out but the back stays up. I drive carfully like this for about a week. then i turn of the air switch in the trunk and the back drops too. i turn it back on. turn the car on and the back does not lift either. i can hear the compressor and the car lifts about an inch or so. any idea if the compressor is bad ?or the bags have a leak? any help would be appreciated. I am going o do the conversion butfirst would like to find out the problem. thanks

Factory air springs & struts usually last an average of 5 to 10 years. Anything over that is overtime. If the car goes down with the suspension switch off, you have a leak..period. The only question in my mind is if the compressor is ok.

The only way to know for sure if the compressor is any good, is to put a gauge on it and this special gauge is exteremly rare. Most dealerships don't even have one! You can try to put a floorjack under the front of the car and give it a few pumps. Don't go too high or the module will do nothing but vent. Jack it up just under normal height, then turn on the ignition and see if the front end goes up. If it works, try this for the rear.

Because the air struts/springs leak when the fold of the rubber exposes the cracks, your goal is to try to get the fold in a different area....hopefully the cracks will temporarily seal and the car "may" lift up. To better understand where the cracks are and about the "fold of the rubber", go here: http://www.americanairsuspension.com/why does it leak one day.htm

If you do this and the front and/or rear won't go up, most likely the compressor is shot.

Smart man. Do the conversion. Save your money for MAF and other goodies.
