I've got an '02 that has that built-in Motorola phone integration thing, with the overhead "SOS" and "info" buttons. I do not have a sunroof/moonroof. I miss having a "home" for my sunglasses and so have been eyeing the possibility of trying to swap in an overhead console with storage bin from a 2nd gen.
I found this post that says it probably won't work due to the different headliner. I've not been able to find good comparison pictures that show the differences in this regard, but in looking at my headliner, I see there are recesses for the sunvisors, and in between them is a "hump" that contains the dome light. On the "front" of this hump are the "SOS" and "Info" buttons for the phone system. Between those buttons and the dome light there is a space at least 4" long, maybe more.
It looks like there would be a void above the headliner that would accommodate the overhead storage bin assuming the phone buttons and associated wiring were removed. I'm wondering if anyone has enough familiarity with the different models to know whether this is feasible. Or does anyone happen to have drawings or diagrams of this area as between the two generations that I could look at to get a feel for what might be involved?
