Tachometer issue

I drive a '96 Mark VIII - purchased about a month ago, always wanted one, never been happier with a car. Anyways, it seems the tach is goofed--It responds slightly but the needle never goes above 1400 or so, and under hard acceleration the needle is pegged at the bottom. Anyone know which wires under the hood are for the tach and where they go? Is this even possible to fix, with ease?

Common problem.

THe backing that has the numbers for the tach has lifted up enough to jam the needle.

Ill try to find the step by step instuctions to fix it. Iv'e never needed to.

You can use this to remove and reinstall the gauge cluster. Just follow those directions pretty much to the T and you will be done. The only thing is is that you will need to purchase some glue so you can glue the gauges back down. Not really sure what glue you will want, but I have used trim adhesive before. BUT, if you think you may want to replace the gauges with custom gauges then DO NOT use trim adhesive.....you may never get the factory gauges off. Try to get some glue that holds well, but is a bit forgiving so you can remove the gauges at a later date.

Is that the directions you were referring to Mike? If you need help finding some of the step-by-steps you can go to my Tech help portion of my website. I will be updating it again with some more step-by-steps in the near future.......
