the girl friend received a "1099 misc income" statement. just trying to figure out exactly what it is?

you get a 1099 normally when you are self employed
like when a company contracts out to you and does not want to deal with the taxes

I got one from my bank to report interest earned.

I got one for a class action settlement. Thing is, I never got my $18.00 check. Screwed on both ends and not even a kiss or hair pull .
