Occasionally a post will make reference to 'test pipes', meaning replacements for cat. cons. Does anyone know of a source for stainless test pipes for 1st gen LSs? Who makes'em; where can one find'em? TIA

Forgive me, but what's the special about a replacement test pipe versus just a plain ole piece of pipe that any shop can cut and put on?

For the people that sell them it is a legal thing suggesting a temporary and not a replacement since it is illegal to permanently remove pollution control device.

no one makes them... You will have to get it custom made as I had to do... That line here yet Ken?

Latest is that the whole works will be through the paperwork shuffle and ship about mid-month. I'm quite itchy!!

The reason I asked about 'test' pipes is that I'll actually install them when I do the engine change. Having them custom made will include removing the cats and that's just doing the same job twice. You used to be able to buy test pipes quite inexpensively. Thus the question.

most people here don't understand what high flow means

There is not a production vehicle made in the U.S, that come swith a high flow exhaust! All factory exhaust systems are made with 2 things in mind. 1. Getting it to pass federal mandated emission standards(which do not mean high flow) 2. Lowering the sound level (again not high flow)
Do I want my LS to be rediculously loud to get the max flow? No its not a race car, but let's be honest it is not HIGH FLOW! There are options available for other vehicles that have a great sound and are high flow, but they are complete systems, Headers back! It is a shame that there is no complete system available for this car. If there were you people that think the factory exhaust is high flow would change your "tune". A REAL complete exhaust system can make a night/day difference!

Cats from Ford are of the best, honeycomb, design. 'High flow' is, of course, a very generic term. I just read a six cat test. From the stock to the best aftermarket cat was about three HP.

You can usually 'gut' a cat by using a piece of steel rod and a hammer to break up the monolith and then shake it out of the pipe.

As in with headers? I am confused, the site ( Magnaflow ) shows X-Pipes and all.

To find out about this, read 'Land Speed LS' in the HP section.
