geno got me into over clocking last night and wouldnt you know i hit 5ghz from 3.07ghz and now my computer wont even turn on LOL. so yeah i wont be on near as much untill i figure out what to do. any suggestions? like i can hear the computer running, fans spin, graphics card turns on. HDD's spin but no picture or boot noises =/

If you PM "Rifleman@LaymansPC.com", (that's his name on here) he might be able to give you a hand. He has helped me when my computer was so screwd up it wouldn't even get on the interent.

Sounds like you need to clear the CMOS. There should be a button or jumper on your motherboard to clear the settings that are causing your computer not to boot. Clearing CMOS resets the BIOS to the factory settings; eliminating your overclocked settings.

I'm not sure what your computer specs are but 5ghz is dangerous (as you now know). In order to evacuate the heat generated by the cpu at that clock you would need a liquid Nitrogen cooling system. With the newest processors 4.0ghz is possible 24/7 but should be cooled with a powerful cooler (water).

Care to share your specs?

jus a normal computer, pentium 4 3.07ghz processor i think its asus or something, geforce 7600gt 256mb gpu, 1.5gigs of ram, stock cooling. two HDD's 1. 160gig 2. 80gig(partitioned) lg 22" lcd widescreen monitor/tv. nothing special. got it to run 3.79ghz stable but then i got greedy lol. i took the bios cell battery thing out for a bit to see what happens i cant find the jumpers.

You can't get it to boot into BIOS to change it back? Damn, you really DID get greedy. lol Maybe you fried the processor?

I just over clocked my Dell XPS 625 AMD Athlon 64x2 5600 from 2.8 to 3.2 with stock cooling. Mine blue screened on me a few times when I took it too high while stress testing it, but luckily after 3 reboots it defaulted back to the original BIOS settings. Just ordered a Corsair liquid cooler (was an option for this PC after I ordered it), some Artic Silver and gonna try for a little more.

Good luck, dude. :Beer

removed the cell battery and it did the trick. im running 4.06ghz stable right now. stock cooling. i think i did pretty good!
