Dodge will show a potential Mustang competitor when it unveils its Challenger concept, and spy shots floating around suggest a shape that closely mimics the silhouette of its Charger muscle car that starred in this year's Dukes of Hazzard film. Given DC's penchant for turning out different flavours of the Brampton-built 300/Magnum/Charger trio, this two-door version seems like a no-brainer to make it to production.Chrysler confirmed that the concept Challenger will be built on a modified version of the rear-wheel-drive Charger/Magnum/300 chassis that's been shortened by 4 inches to 116 inches. The concept will be powered by a 6.1-liter Hemi V8 mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with a pistol-grip shifter.
Chrysler's Pacifica advanced design studio in Carlsbad, California, has successfully managed to capture the swoopy look of the original 1970 Challenger — a stablemate to the legendary Plymouth Barracuda — albeit with such modern touches as oversize wheels and tires and integral body-colored bumper fascias.
