kinda a silly video.... The gulf oil spill warranted Obama's complete and undivided attention no more than Katrina warranted Bush's. I suppose though, this is quid pro quo for republicans who had to put up with Bush smearing in the wake of Katrina.
I do so hate this countries tendency to blame the president every time one of the agencies beneath him fails to make miracles. This is no different than those imbeciles that blame Bush for 9-11 and Katrina.
Seriously though, for the president to even have to get involved in a clean up that should be the responsibility of lower government agencies, BP, and a few other groups..... just silly, just like Bush having to intervene in the Katrina debacle. Shows a total breakdown in these lower agencies. If anything, this should demonstrate how impotent these agencies are. This should serve as a demonstration that these mismanaged and bloated government agencies require total overhaul and proper training and authority.
I know people who work on those rigs, and even have worked on that rig (thankfully for one such person, he was on his off time), and the stuff I hear from these people or people in this area. There were officers of the coast guard who weren't even sure who was in charge of the area, whether they were, or the BP crew was.
I don't think we have ever elected a president that was capable of micromanaging the entire US and could work miracles in his spare time. A presidents duty is to lead a nation. It is sad when the nation passes blame on the president because he didn't personally make a hurricane or an oil spill go away.
Besides, I can recall several times over the past weeks Obama making mention of the spill or discussing efforts or changes in the effort. I believe this speech is more a response to the impotence demonstrated by the experts and agencies beneath that should have been in charge of this spill. Honestly, they just got around to organizing the planning committee.... Prior to this, BP was handling everything internally and sometimes passing information to the press and the department of natural resources.
